Golden Globe Awards: Netflix To Stop Any Activities With HFPA!!

Immediately following the announcement that Netflix is “holding up any activities” with the (HFPA) Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group behind the Golden Globe Awards, “till some significant changes are done” to the group’s ethical rules & regulations, aspects of which have shaken the industry since they emerged in a February 21 LA Times exposé, one more big streamer is supporting publicly the same stand.

“We are not serving with the HFPA since these concerns were elevated, and like the rest of the industry, we’re expecting a sincere & significant-resolution before moving ahead,” Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke stated on Friday night.

“Like several in our industry, we were waiting for today’s news in the hope that you’d recognize the breadth of concerns facing the HFPA and provide a clear roadmap for transformation,” Sarandos addressed. But the HFPA plan’s schedule growing the company by 50% over the following 18 months was not acceptable to him, he added, “So we are stopping activities with your organization until more significant changes are made.”

Amongst several individuals & groups who’ve shredded the organization is Time’s Up which caned out at it today again after inditing a pair of brutal post-Globes letters — Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Ellen Pompeo, Ava DuVernay, Kerry Washington, Jurnee Smollett, JJ Abrams, Jenifer Aniston, Damon Lindelof, and Shonda Rhimes, the SAG-AFTRA, DGA, and GLAAD. The latter arose a statement tonight from CEO Sarah Kate Ellis as well.

The (HFPA) Hollywood Foreign Press Association changes do not go far enough to secure the company as a place where historically marginalized associations—including the LGBTQ community—feel greeted; especially not in time for essential change to take place before the 2022 awards season. There’s a shortage of clarity and accountability which yet has to be discussed, he added.
