Dubai witnesses shortage of drivers

A publicly owned Taxi Company of Dubai is looking for drivers, amid the demand for the transport witnesses a soar.

Abu Dhabi, UAE: A publicly owned Taxi Company of Dubai is looking for drivers, amid the demand for the transport witnesses a soar. The firm has planned a new recruitment day today, where it will be offering a monthly wage of Dh2,000 to the potential drivers. 

Moreover, the commission amount will be added to this monthly offered salary. Both men, as well as women, can apply for the vacancy, who is at present working in the “pink taxi” fleet.

Below are the documents required for the post: 

  • An applicant is needed to have a residency visa,
  • Emirates ID,
  • Valid driving licence. 

According to the firm’s advertisements, an individual is only eligible if they fall in the age group of 23 to 55 years. 

A walk-in day for the positions was conducted on Friday, between 8 am to 2 pm, at the headquarters of the company only, at – Office M-11, Abu Hail Centre, Deira. 

The taxi cooperation for the present time consists of more than 5,700 vehicles, the majority of which operates 24 hours a day, on the split shift of 12 hours. 

The demand for drivers witnessed a rise after Careem and parent company Uber faced significant growth. Moreover, the reports are that thousands of drivers are at present busy with the Dubai EXPO 2020, which attracted millions of tourists for the United Arab Emirates, one of the reasons for this shortage. 

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic also resulted in a hike in the population of Dubai; thousands of newborn arrivals are being witnessed by the city.
