For many Christians in the US, this weekend marked the first time since 2019 that they will gather together in person on Easter Sunday, a welcome chance to mark one of the year’s most sacred days.

This corona pandemic came into the country in March 2020, just before the Easter, forcing many churches to do online or televised worship.

Many still continued to hold online services through social apps after the deadly wave of the corona pandemic.

But after two years now, this time, many churches are opening their doors for Easter services with limited restrictions on COVID-19, in line with wider societal trends.

Among these are Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston, which have required most churchgoers to attend Mass in person since last June.

Though those with health hazards may still watch remotely, pastors have also been asked to make areas for social distancing in churches.

The chief health care ethicist for the archdiocese, MC Sullivan, said that celebrating Mass communally is very crucial to how Catholics profess their faith in god.

Church attendance has been going upward, and parishioners are eager to assemble again to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.

Shanghai has set a target to prevent the spread of Covid-19 outside of quarantined regions by Wednesday. Two people familiar with the matter said it allows the city to ease its lockdown further and start returning to everyday life as public frustrations rise.

The target will need officials to accelerate Covid testing and transfer positive cases to quarantine centres.
