Dominica: PM Skerrit joins inauguration of   new playground at Penville

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica along with Minister Melissa Skerrit and officials from People Republic of China joined the inauguration ceremony of a newly constructed playground on Saturday at Penville.

It should be specifically mentioned that June 8 is also the birthday of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, which makes the occasion extra special.  The playground was established with the Chinese donation for kids of Pineville.  PM Skerrit also belongs to Penville. Moreover  the locality falls in the Vieille Case Constituency represented by PM Skerrit.

 

PM Skerrit congratulated the residents on this new facility and expressed his gratitude to the People’s Republic of China Government officials for executing the development project in Dominica. According to PM  the playground will bring joy and happiness to children and motivate them to adopt a sports culture and a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, the playground reflects the Chinese government’s commitment to building better infrastructure on this island.

During his address  the PM also highlighted the importance of playgrounds  which will encourage children to engage in outdoor activities and overcome their addiction to digital gadgets. He also  that physical activities are important for maintaining stable mental health. During the opening ceremony  the children   performed folk dances and received appreciation from the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.

 

The PM said  “I am happy to see that donations from China are being spent on the public welfare project  and this playground is the best example  . The children are looking very happy today and our government will continue our efforts for more such projects in other parts soon.”

The next phase of the project’s construction will begin shortly. It will consist of a gazebo for the parents of the visiting children.    According to available information many other playground facility projects are in the pipeline. These projects will be completed soon to provide space for sports activities for the children of respective localities.
