Dubai Mall to Deduct Parking Fees Directly from Salik Accounts

Weekday visitors can enjoy up to four hours of complimentary parking, extending to six hours on weekends. Beyond these durations, charges ranging from Dh20 to Dh1,000 will apply, depending on the length of stay, which will be from four to 24 hours

In a move set to redefine parking convenience at one of the world’s largest shopping destinations, Dubai Mall is gearing up to implement a new parking payment system starting July 1.

Operated by Salik, Dubai’s renowned tollgate operator, the innovative solution promises a seamless, barrier-free experience for visitors across specified parking zones.

Under this arrangement, parking at the Fashion, Grand, and Cinema zones will be subject to fees after a generous free period.

Weekday visitors can enjoy up to four hours of complimentary parking, extending to six hours on weekends. Beyond these durations, charges ranging from Dh20 to Dh1,000 will apply, depending on the length of stay, which will be from four to 24 hours.

Salik’s advanced technology, known for its efficiency in toll collection across Dubai’s roads, will now be harnessed to automate parking fee deductions.

Using vehicle plate recognition, the system will directly deduct applicable fees from Salik user accounts, ensuring a ticketless and hassle-free experience for motorists.

“This initiative marks a pivotal step in our journey towards enhancing mobility solutions,” stated Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik Company. “By leveraging our expertise in seamless transaction systems, we aim to alleviate congestion and streamline parking operations at Dubai Mall.”

The partnership between Salik and Dubai Mall spans five years, during which Salik will oversee the design, financing, installation, and management of the parking payment collection system.

In return, Dubai Mall will provide necessary infrastructure support and ensure maintenance across its extensive parking facilities accommodating 13,000 vehicles.

The introduction of this new system underscores Dubai’s commitment to advancing smart city initiatives and sustainable mobility solutions. With Salik’s widespread presence covering approximately 90% of vehicles in the UAE, the transition promises broad accessibility and user convenience.

In the first quarter of 2024 alone, Salik reported significant growth with 122.8 million revenue-generating trips, amounting to Dh562 million in revenue—an 8.1% increase year-on-year.

This robust performance highlights the company’s strategic intent to diversify revenue streams and expand its footprint in smart city infrastructure.

“For us, this marks only the beginning,” emphasized Al Haddad. “We envision scaling this model to other locations, contributing further to Dubai’s ambition as a global leader in sustainable urban development.”

As Dubai Mall prepares to roll out the Salik-powered parking system, anticipation grows among residents and tourists alike for enhanced convenience and efficiency in their mall visits.

The initiative not only promises to streamline operations but also sets a precedent for future urban planning endeavors aimed at reducing congestion and optimizing urban mobility.

With July 1 approaching swiftly, stakeholders are gearing up for a transformation in parking dynamics at Dubai Mall—a testament to Dubai’s continuous evolution as a city at the forefront of technological innovation and urban development.
