PM Skerrit attends celebration rally to welcome Thea Lafond Gadson  

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica  joined the celebration event to welcome Thea Lafond Gadson who won first Olympic gold medal for Dominica.

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica  joined the celebration event to welcome home golden girl Thea Lafond Gadson. She returned after participating in the Paris Olympics  where she won the country’s first Olympic gold medal in the triple jump category.

Thea Lafond Gadson was showered with many rewards and cash prize. People called her Golden Girl  who made them proud with her performance at the international level.  A motorcade accompanied her from Borough’s Square, Portsmouth  to the capital  Roseau. Later on she was welcomed at  a celebration rally  organized at Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt  which had a huge gathering.

It is worth noting that few Days ago  PM Skerrit in a Facebook  post invited the citizens to join welcome events. Large number of people attended the welcome ceremony at Prime Minister Skerrit’s call  on August 25.

At the celebration rally  PM Skerrit again extended his best wishes to golden girl Thea Lafond Gadson and gave her   $400,000 cash prize.  In addition, the PM made many other announcements to recognize Thea Lafond Gadson’s achievement. As per the PM  besides the cash prize and diplomatic passport, she will be appointed the international Sports Ambassador of the Country to motivate the youth.  

The  golden girl will also be honoured with the highest award of country, which is conferred to the person with remarkable achievement. The “The Dominica Award of Honour”  will be given to her on the nation’s independence day. Notably  she will be a special guest at the Independence Day event.

The other announcement includes a piece of land in Warner. The 7,459-square-foot plot will be located in a future housing project here. A track and field sports facility will also be established  named after Thea Lafond Gadson.

On the other hand during her speech on the occasion, Thea Lafond Gadson added “I am feeling happy and proud to represent the country on the global stage. She loudly shouted on stage We did it, and people began to cheer in response.”  

PM shares a glimpse of the event on his social media handles. The social media users  while reacting to the Facebook post of PM  also congratulated Thea Lafond Gadson and welcomed her.  One Facebook user  Angela Sylvester, commented “Kudos to the government. Your actions have certainly reflected our pride and appreciation in Thea’s accomplishments. Well done!”
