The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, announced during a recent press conference that United Airlines will soon operate a direct flight from New Jersey to Dominica.

This flight, which will kick off on February 15, 2025 will connect Newark Liberty International Airport to Douglas-Charles Airport.

PM Skerrit expressed hope that this new non-stop flight would be a big boost to the tourism sector.

In the initial phase, the Airline will operate Saturday flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Douglas-Charles Airport. This is the second direct route to Dominica from the United States of America by any airline.

Notably, the Douglas-Charles Airport of Dominica had recently upgraded its infrastructure to accommodate more international flights with larger aircraft.

During the conference, PM Skerrit stated, “It is another step towards direct international connectivity of Douglas-Charles Airport. This will have a significant positive impact on Dominica’s tourism sector.”

The PM underlined how this would help the hotel and hospitality industry with increased tourist footfall. Moreover, tourism growth will create enormous opportunities for job seekers.

According to the PM, besides creating job opportunities the increased inflow of international tourism also helps the Government to generate revenue. The revenue generated will then be spent on people-oriented programs.

“The extension of the runway played a big role in attracting international Airlines to Douglas Charles Airport. Some expressed concern over the expansion plan, but it certainly helped, although I took a little bit extra time to approve funds for expansion as the country is developing an international airport,” he added.

The PM also said the new flight reflected an increased interest among people in exploring Dominica’s tourist destinations. We expect more Airlines to start operating direct flights to Dominica in the future.

It is worth noting that just a week ago, Tourism Minister of Dominica Denise Charles–Pemberton revealed about this flight. She also termed this development a big achievement for the country.

On the other hand, Marva Williams, the CEO of Discover Dominica Authority, shared her happiness about the new direct flight to the country, saying that this will make Dominica more popular among tourists in the coming years.
