Under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has launched an expansive relief operation titled 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3', focusing on delivering critical medical care, urgent relief supplies, and vital health and infrastructure support

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza escalates, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as one of the first responders, mobilizing swiftly to support the Palestinian people.

Under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has launched an expansive relief operation titled ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3’, focusing on delivering critical medical care, urgent relief supplies, and vital health and infrastructure support.

Immediate Medical Assistance

The UAE’s response to the crisis began with a significant emphasis on providing medical care to those injured in the ongoing conflict.

The UAE established a field hospital in Rafah, which has treated an impressive 48,704 patients since its inception last year.

This facility includes various departments and specialized clinics dedicated to addressing the diverse medical needs of the population amid the turmoil.

In addition to the field hospital, the UAE deployed a floating hospital to the Egyptian city of Al Arish, equipped to receive and treat injured Palestinians.

Since its operation commenced, this facility has provided specialized surgical care and outpatient services, treating over 5,040 cases.

Prosthetic Limb Initiative

Recognizing the severe impact of the conflict on individuals, the UAE has introduced a prosthetics initiative as part of ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3’.

This program aims to support Gazan residents who have lost limbs due to violence. Recipients of the advanced prosthetic limbs are also provided with psychological support and rehabilitation services, assisting them in adjusting to their new realities and regaining their mobility and independence.

Revitalizing the Health Sector

The UAE has played a pivotal role in revitalizing Gaza’s damaged health sector, contributing 736.25 tonnes of medical supplies that include medicines, emergency kits, and essential medical equipment.

In addition to direct medical aid, the UAE is also investing in the rehabilitation and expansion of local hospitals and health centers, aiming to bolster the healthcare infrastructure severely impacted by the conflict.

In a further humanitarian gesture, President Sheikh Mohamed directed the evacuation of 1,000 children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza to the UAE for specialized medical treatment.

This initiative ensures that the evacuees receive necessary healthcare, including treatment costs and medications, to alleviate their suffering in the face of scarce medical resources.

Vaccination Campaign Against Polio

Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the UAE launched a polio vaccination campaign targeting over 640,000 children under ten years old in Gaza.

In partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the campaign aims to halt the virus’s spread and prevent a potential outbreak among vulnerable populations.

Strategic Transport of Aid

The logistical scale of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts is staggering. The nation has facilitated the transport of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza through 273 cargo planes, five cargo ships, and six vessels from Cyprus, collectively delivering over 34,000 tonnes of aid via 1,284 trucks.

This operation underscores the UAE’s commitment to ensuring that vital resources reach those most in need.

In addition to ground and sea transport, the UAE’s Joint Operations Command has launched ‘Birds of Goodness’, employing C-17 aircraft to air-drop humanitarian aid to isolated areas within Gaza.

To date, this initiative has conducted 53 drops, delivering 3,623 tonnes of essential relief supplies directly to those in urgent need.

Addressing Water Needs

Water scarcity is one of the pressing issues facing Gaza’s population. In response, the UAE has established six water desalination plants in Al Arish, each with a daily capacity of two million gallons, providing clean water to over one million people.

The UAE has also extended emergency support to local municipalities by supplying water and sanitation trucks, as well as essential equipment necessary for improving access to clean water.

Projects aimed at repairing damaged water lines, wells, and networks in Khan Yunis and North Gaza have further improved residents’ access to clean water and living conditions. These initiatives are critical in alleviating the dire water crisis exacerbated by the ongoing conflict.

A Continued Humanitarian Commitment

Despite the ongoing challenges and devastation in Gaza, the UAE remains committed to supporting vital sectors and assisting displaced families. Volunteers participating in the ‘Chivalrous Knight 3’ operation continue to distribute essential humanitarian aid.

This includes shelter tents, winter clothing, food parcels, children’s necessities, dates, vegetables, cleaning supplies, bread, and water, all aimed at alleviating the immediate hardships faced by the affected population.

As the one-year mark of ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3’ approaches, the UAE reaffirms its dedication to providing ongoing support to the Palestinian people.

This extensive relief operation has not only focused on immediate needs but also sought to improve the long-term living conditions of those affected by the crisis.

Through its unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts, the UAE continues to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, striving to alleviate their suffering and restore hope amid adversity.

Conclusion

The UAE’s multifaceted approach to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza exemplifies a profound commitment to global responsibility and solidarity.

Through comprehensive medical support, infrastructural rehabilitation, and logistical coordination of aid, the UAE is making a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals facing unimaginable challenges.

As the situation in Gaza evolves, the UAE’s humanitarian efforts will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping a more hopeful future for the region’s people.
