A woman in her 30s has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court after being convicted of facilitating the consumption of drugs to others.

The Dubai resident was found guilty of supplying two psychotropic substances — amphetamine and methamphetamine — to a male acquaintance free of charge.

The case began on April 2, 2024, when Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department received a tip-off that a man was using drugs in the Satwa area of Dubai.

The tip also indicated that the individual was in possession of narcotics. The police quickly initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect on April 3, 2024.

A search warrant was obtained from the Public Prosecution, allowing officers to search the suspect’s residence and inspect his vehicle.

Later that evening, the man was apprehended, informed of the charges against him, and taken to the Anti-Narcotics Department for questioning.

A urine sample taken from the suspect tested positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine, controlled substances under UAE law.

During the investigation, the man confessed to consuming the drugs and revealed that he had obtained them from the female defendant.

According to his testimony, the woman had supplied him with the narcotics on two separate occasions, free of charge. The suspect further led police to the location of additional drugs, including four packets of crystal meth, which were also traced back to the woman.

It was later revealed that the woman was already in police custody in connection with another drug case.

Although she initially confessed to the charges during her interrogation, she retracted her admission during the trial, claiming that her earlier statement had been coerced.

However, the court dismissed her denial, stating that her confession was made voluntarily and with full awareness.

The court ruled that the woman’s actions had facilitated the illegal consumption of narcotics and undermined efforts to combat the drug trade in the UAE. In addition to the five-year prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Dh50,000 on the defendant.

Furthermore, the woman has been ordered to be deported from the UAE once she completes her prison sentence.

This case highlights the UAE’s strict stance on drug-related offenses, with severe penalties for individuals involved in the trafficking or facilitation of narcotics.

Authorities have consistently emphasized their commitment to maintaining public safety by taking a firm approach to combat drug use and distribution across the country.

As the UAE continues to enforce its anti-drug laws, the case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of involvement in the illegal drug trade, particularly when it comes to facilitating the consumption of harmful substances to others.
