UAE Weather: NCM Issues Yellow Warning for Dust as Temperatures Drop

Abu Dhabi Police took to social media platform X to advise motorists to exercise caution, particularly in areas affected by blowing dust. Drivers have been urged to adhere to speed limits displayed on electronic information boards, which may change depending on visibility conditions

Abu Dhabi – The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow warning for dust across the UAE on Friday, January 31, cautioning residents about reduced visibility and changing weather conditions.

The alert, in effect from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, warns of horizontal visibility dropping to less than 2,000 meters in some areas due to strong winds stirring up dust and sand.

Abu Dhabi Police took to social media platform X to advise motorists to exercise caution, particularly in areas affected by blowing dust.

Drivers have been urged to adhere to speed limits displayed on electronic information boards, which may change depending on visibility conditions.

Temperature Drops and Expected Rainfall

While much of the country is experiencing fair weather, a slight drop in temperatures is expected, particularly in northern and eastern regions.

The NCM has also forecasted light to moderate northwesterly to southwesterly winds, occasionally strengthening to speeds of 45 km/h. These winds are expected to contribute to the dust storms, affecting inland and coastal areas.

In addition to the dusty conditions, some parts of the UAE may see rainfall on Friday. The weather will be fair to partly cloudy, with increased cloud cover over northern and eastern regions.

As night falls and into Saturday morning, humidity levels are likely to rise, increasing the probability of mist formation over internal and coastal areas.

Rough Seas and Temperature Variations

Marine conditions in the Arabian Gulf will be rough, with similar conditions expected in the Oman Sea at times, particularly when cloud cover increases. Seafarers and those planning beach activities have been advised to stay updated with weather warnings before venturing out.

Temperatures will vary significantly across the country, with Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais experiencing a chilly low of 8°C, while some areas could see highs of 28°C. Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi will witness daytime highs of 24°C, 25°C, and 23°C, respectively.

Safety Advisory for Residents

Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions during the yellow alert period. Those with respiratory conditions should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure due to airborne dust particles.

Additionally, motorists are advised to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and use headlights in case of reduced visibility.

As weather conditions continue to shift, the NCM recommends staying updated with official forecasts and advisories.

The fluctuating temperatures, occasional rainfall, and dusty winds highlight the importance of vigilance, particularly for those commuting or engaging in outdoor activities.
