Dubai’s iconic fountain, one of the world’s most spectacular water displays, is set to undergo a five-month-long renovation aimed at enhancing its choreography, lighting, and sound system, property developer Emaar announced on Wednesday.

Located in Downtown Dubai, adjacent to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain has been a major attraction for residents and tourists alike.

With its synchronised water, music, and light performances, the landmark has captivated millions of visitors each year since its grand opening in 2009.

Extensive Upgrades for a More Immersive Experience

Emaar Properties, the largest real estate developer in the UAE, confirmed that the comprehensive upgrade project will commence in May 2024.

The revamp aims to introduce cutting-edge technology, refining the precision of water movements and enhancing the overall immersive experience of the show.

Dubai Fountain is more than a spectacle — it is a reflection of Dubai’s soul, where art, innovation, and emotion come together in perfect harmony,” said Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar.

“As we elevate this iconic landmark, we continue to create experiences that connect people, inspire wonder, and stand the test of time.”

The enhancements will include improved lighting effects and a state-of-the-art sound system to enrich the musical synchronisation.

Additionally, the renovation will focus on refining the water projections, ensuring a visually striking display that integrates seamlessly with the Dubai skyline.

A Beloved Landmark Set for a Grand Return

Since its launch, the Dubai Fountain has been a centrepiece of the city’s entertainment offerings, with daily performances featuring international and regional musical compositions.

The attraction, known for shooting water jets up to 150 metres high, is the largest choreographed fountain system in the world, covering an area of 12 hectares in the Burj Lake.

While the fountain undergoes its temporary closure, visitors will still be able to explore the vibrant surroundings of Downtown Dubai, including the Dubai Mall and its various attractions.

Emaar has assured the public that upon completion of the renovation, the fountain will return with a renewed grandeur, promising an even more mesmerising display.

Anticipation Builds Ahead of Reopening

The announcement has already generated buzz among residents and tourists eager to witness the revitalised performances.

While some visitors may be disappointed by the temporary closure, many express excitement over the prospect of an improved and more immersive spectacle.

“It’s one of my favourite places in Dubai. I’ll miss the fountain shows, but I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with,” said Nadine Karim, a Dubai resident.

Emaar has not yet announced an official reopening date but has indicated that the fountain will return before the end of 2024.

As Dubai continues to evolve as a global tourism and entertainment hub, the upgraded Dubai Fountain is expected to further cement its status as a must-visit attraction, offering an enhanced experience for audiences from around the world.
