Fujairah F3 Power Plant Begins Full Operations, Strengthening UAE’s Energy Transition

The 2.4-gigawatt Fujairah F3 power plant in Qidfa, one of the UAE’s largest gas-fired facilities, begins full operations, providing cleaner, efficient electricity for 380,000 homes and advancing the country’s energy diversification goals

The Fujairah F3 Independent Power Producer (IPP) project has officially commenced full commercial operations, marking a major milestone in the UAE’s journey toward cleaner and more sustainable energy production.

Located in the Qidfa area of Fujairah, the 2.4-gigawatt (GW) plant is one of the largest and most efficient gas-fired power facilities in the country. Fujairah F3 can generate enough electricity to power approximately 380,000 homes, providing stable and reliable energy to meet growing demand while supporting the integration of renewable resources.

The announcement was made jointly by Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), Marubeni Corporation, Mubadala Investment Company, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company.

Featuring Mitsubishi Power’s advanced JAC-class gas turbine technology, the facility operates under a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) configuration. This allows high thermal efficiency, quick response times, and a significantly lower emissions profile compared to traditional fossil-fuel-based plants.

Developed under the IPP model, TAQA owns 40 percent of the project company, Marubeni Corporation 20.4 percent, Mubadala 20 percent, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company the remaining 19.6 percent. EWEC acts as the sole procurer of electricity through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Andreas Collor, Chief Operations Officer of TAQA’s Generation business, said the project represents a significant milestone for the company. “The Fujairah F3 IPP reaching full commercial operations is an important step in delivering reliable and flexible power generation that supports our growth and the UAE’s energy transition,” he said.

Mohamed Almarzooqi, Chief Asset Development and Management Officer of EWEC, emphasized the plant’s role in maintaining grid stability. “Fujairah F3 provides transitional capacity that supports renewable integration while ensuring grid reliability during peak demand periods,” he noted.

Dr Alyazia Ali Al Kuwaiti‏, Executive Director of Mubadala’s UAE Industries unit, added that the project not only strengthens national energy security but also aligns with Mubadala’s Net Zero strategy and community development goals.

Naoki Ito, Executive Officer at Marubeni Corporation, highlighted that the initiative demonstrates the power of global collaboration. “This project reflects international cooperation and innovation in addressing the region’s evolving energy needs,” he said.

Masayoshi Hayashi of Hokuriku Electric Power Company reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to efficient, low-emission energy production, while Les Graham of Fujairah Power Company underscored the plant’s role in supporting the growth of intermittent renewable energy in the UAE.

Fujairah F3 stands as a cornerstone in the UAE’s clean energy vision — combining advanced technology, international expertise, and environmental responsibility to meet future power demands sustainably.
