Dubai residents with a passion for gardening now have the chance to showcase their creativity and environmental commitment in a competition offering prizes worth Dh300,000.
Dubai Municipality has launched the latest edition of its home-garden contest, The Most Beautiful Sustainable Home Garden in Dubai, aiming to inspire residents to turn their outdoor spaces into climate-friendly oases.
Open to villa residents — whether owners or renters — the competition encourages participants to use water wisely, plant native species, and incorporate renewable energy into their garden designs. Indoor or rooftop gardens are not eligible.
Entries close on December 21, and shortlisted gardens will be inspected by a judging panel in January and February 2026, with winners announced at a special ceremony in March 2026.
Ten winners will be chosen based on ten key criteria, including water efficiency, biodiversity, soil health, design creativity, maintenance, and safety.
The top prize is Dh100,000, followed by Dh70,000 for second place and Dh40,000 for third. Two additional winners will each receive Dh20,000, while the remaining five shortlisted entries will enter a Dh10,000 raffle draw.
Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Awadi, Director of Dubai Municipality’s Agriculture Department, said the initiative reflects the city’s broader sustainability goals.
“Dubai Municipality does not only plant trees, but also fosters awareness and environmental responsibility in every neighbourhood and home,” Al-Awadi said. “We believe that beauty begins within the community.”
Last year’s edition of the contest drew nearly 200 participants. The municipality supported the effort with more than 150 community workshops covering topics such as smart irrigation, soil health, and selecting plants suited to the UAE’s desert climate.
The competition complements Dubai’s long-term environmental strategy. In 2024 alone, the city planted about 216,500 new trees — an average of 600 a day — and expanded its green spaces by more than 390 hectares, marking a 57 percent increase.
Through this initiative, Dubai Municipality hopes to transform residential neighborhoods into vibrant, sustainable environments that contribute to the emirate’s green future.
Residents interested in participating can register for the contest via the Dubai Municipality website.
