Abu Dhabi Police Launch “Be Cautious” Campaign to Combat Cyber Fraud

Abu Dhabi Police urges residents to stay vigilant as cyber fraud evolves. The “Be Cautious” campaign informs the community about phishing, fake investments, and online scams to safeguard personal and financial information

Abu Dhabi Police have launched a new awareness campaign, “Be Cautious,” to combat rising cyber fraud and strengthen digital security among community members. The initiative aims to educate residents on contemporary forms of online deception.

The campaign addresses various types of online scams, including phishing links, misleading phone calls, fake prize notifications, and fraudulent e-commerce platforms. Residents are urged to remain alert and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unverified sources.

Authorities warned that cybercriminals often attempt to lure victims with urgent requests for money transfers, fake bank messages containing harmful links, or enticing offers for fake gold or luxurious accommodations at unusually low prices. In many cases, victims end up losing significant sums without receiving any promised services or products.

Major General Mohamed Suhail Al Rashdi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, emphasised the importance of public awareness in the fight against cybercrime. He noted that educating residents is a critical step toward reducing the impact of online fraud.

“The campaign is designed to reach all sections of society through social media, traditional media, community councils, universities, and schools,” Al Rashdi said. “Collaboration among stakeholders is vital to maximise the campaign’s outreach and impact.”

The three-month initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, other police departments, the UAE Cybersecurity Council, Abu Dhabi Media, First Abu Dhabi Bank, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

Events and educational programmes will include workshops, seminars, and social media campaigns to ensure that information reaches residents of all age groups and backgrounds. The campaign will provide practical guidance on how to recognise and avoid common online scams.

Residents are encouraged to verify any suspicious calls, messages, or advertisements before responding. The authorities emphasised that legitimate financial institutions and service providers never request sensitive information via unverified channels.

By promoting a proactive approach to digital security, Abu Dhabi Police aim to create a safer online environment for residents. The campaign also serves as a reminder that vigilance and informed decision-making are key to protecting personal and financial assets.

Community members are advised to report any suspected fraudulent activity immediately to the authorities. The police highlighted that timely reporting can prevent further victimisation and help track down cybercriminals.

The “Be Cautious” campaign marks a significant step in Abu Dhabi Police’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime. Through collaboration with government entities, financial institutions, and media partners, the initiative seeks to build a resilient community that can recognise and respond effectively to digital threats.

Residents are encouraged to follow Abu Dhabi Police and related updates through social media channels, community programmes, and educational resources provided during the campaign. Awareness, caution, and timely reporting are the most effective tools in the fight against cyber fraud.

The campaign not only raises awareness but also empowers individuals to take preventive measures, ensuring that the digital space remains safe for all members of the Abu Dhabi community.
