AI-Enhanced Honey Quality Lab Launched in Abu Dhabi

Equipped with advanced AI-enhanced Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) and machine learning tools, the lab ensures rigorous quality checks to detect impurities and verify authenticity according to global standards

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing food safety and quality standards, Abu Dhabi has inaugurated its first AI-enabled honey testing laboratory.

Located at the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) in Masdar City, this state-of-the-art facility is a joint venture between M42 and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC).

The newly opened Honey Quality Laboratory promises to revolutionize the testing and certification process for local and international honey products.

Equipped with advanced AI-enhanced Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) and machine learning tools, the lab ensures rigorous quality checks to detect impurities and verify authenticity according to global standards.

Engineer Abdulla Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at ADQCC, highlighted the lab’s capabilities, stating, “We provide more accurate results than any commercially available testing laboratories, with a wider scope of tests including antibiotics and hormones.”

One of the lab’s key features is its ability to conduct comprehensive tests using isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) to detect adulteration and ensure purity.

This technology plays a crucial role in identifying contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and other toxins that may compromise the quality of honey.

“The AI tools integrated into our operations allow for swift data analysis and precise testing, ensuring that both producers and consumers receive honey products of the highest quality,” noted Al Muaini.

Supported by M42’s Environmental Sciences team, the facility is open not only to commercial entities but also to beekeepers and the general public.

It offers a wide range of services from sample collection to detailed analysis, issuing quality certifications that guarantee the safety and authenticity of honey products.

Albarah Elkhani, senior vice president of operations at M42, emphasized the strategic importance of this public-private partnership.

“Our collaboration with ADQCC aims to support local manufacturers by leveraging technology and automated tools to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.”

The launch of the Honey Quality Laboratory underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to food safety and innovation in the agricultural sector.

By setting new benchmarks in testing and certification, the facility aims to boost consumer confidence in locally produced honey and facilitate international trade by ensuring compliance with global regulations.

“We are not just testing honey; we are ensuring public health and safety by providing critical testing services,” added Elkhani.

In conclusion, the AI-enabled Honey Quality Laboratory represents a significant step forward in ensuring the purity and authenticity of honey products in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

With its cutting-edge technology and commitment to excellence, the facility is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting the UAE’s food industry and safeguarding consumer interests.
