Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, along with Minister of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment, Honourable Cozier Frederick, participated in a press conference addressing the matter of national concern on 27 March 2023.

According to the updates, the press conference was streamed live on several official media channels, such as the official Facebook account of PM Roosevelt Skerrit and the YouTube channel of the Government of Dominica.

On his part, Prime Minister Skerrit took it to address the audience in his opening speech, where he extended his greeting to all the attendees and press along with people who joined the conference via online channels. 

In his remarks, he stated that this press conference is in keeping with the commitment of the government to mutually press every Fortnite; he also added that he has been true to keeping that commitment.

 Furthermore, while addressing the conference, he mentioned, “I want to apprise all the audience towards the new development in the tourism industry; you would have noticed that Dominica as a destination is enjoying a period of high visibility and growing better reviews among top industry publications.”

He further added to his statement that, “Just in the past two weeks alone, Commonwealth of Dominica was named to at least three highly regarded and globally recognized list including the features on CNN travel and Time Magazine.” 

In addition to this, he also pointed out that these are the positive and encouraging signs that the nation is on the right pathway with its efforts to position the destination as a most desirable and priority option for travellers and visitors across the globe.

During the press conference, he continued his speech and acknowledged that the hard work of the tourism industry of Dominica is successfully moving forward as the right choice for visitors who seek a unique travel experience from around the world.

“I want to take this opportunity to commend the work that has been done at Discover Dominica Authority along with many tourism authorities and stakeholders, especially since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, to promote the industry thriving,” said Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

However, Dominica still has to do a lot of work in order to transition into a global brand and the most sustainable climate-resilient destination in the Caribbean region as part of the reset promised by this government, added PM Skerrit. 

Moreover, while mentioning the tourism authority sector, he extended his thoughts and stated, “We want to strengthen our Tourism Authority into a more strategic entity to lead market diversification and penetration.”

 Additionally, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stressed that the Government of Dominica had engaged the services of William Griffith, who is a Managing Director of WCG consulting, which offers specialist services in the field of strategic management, marketing and sales for the tourism and hotel industry. He added that the government has engaged with Griffith to navigate the tourism industry towards the next phase of transformation.

While addressing the audience during the press conference, Prime Minister Skerrit extended his deepest thankfulness to the people who joined the event and showed interest in the national matters of the nation.
