Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica – Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has paid a visit to the Windsor Park Stadium during the 2nd Day of the ongoing 1st Test Match between India and West Indies on Thursday, 14 July 2023. He expressed immense pride and pleasure in visiting the renowned stadium to cheer for the West Indies Men’s Cricket team.

During his visit to the Windsor Park Stadium, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit took it to commend and recognise Alick Athanaze, West Indies opening left-handed batsman, for putting up a show on his debut against India.

He extended his heartfelt congratulations and greetings to the young batter on his dream debut, scoring an impressive 47 runs and becoming the highest run-getter in the West Indies in the first innings.

In addition, to share glimpses from yesterday’s visit to Windsor Park Stadium while expressing his amusement, PM Skerrit has taken to his official social media handle. He shared a video with fellow residents and Dominica’s cricket fans on his official Facebook account, showing him touring the stadium.

Furthermore, as per the shared updates, it was also highlighted that Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, also met with a West Indies legendary cricketer and match commentator Ian Bishop and chatted with him on several topics. 

He also discussed the match’s current scenario of the match and where it is headed, and the player’s performances.

Meanwhile, PM Skerrit also took to his Facebook caption, noting his experience and activities during his visit to the Windsor Park Stadium. In his remarks, he cited, “I had the opportunity to promote Windsor Park”. 

In this context, it was also stated that the Commonwealth of Dominica is hosting Indian Men’s Cricket Team after a long period of 11 (eleven) years which is a special occasion for the entire nation.

The reports mentioned that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit acknowledged this feat during his visit as one of the most prominent examples of growth and development as a country in Dominica.

The reports say that offering such world-class, fully facilitated sports infrastructure to the visiting team is itself an accomplishment.

While extending his remarks, he also mentioned that “Dominica as one of the top cricketing venues in the Caribbean and speak about Alick Athanaze’s success on debut with cricket commentator, Ian Bishop on Day 2 of the1st Test, WI v IND”.

Lastly, PM Skerrit also extended his best wishes and regards to the West Indies team for the ongoing Test Match and upcoming matches of the India Tour of West Indies. 

He took it to encourage the Caribbean team to express themselves on the field by giving a tough fight and winning the series against India.

As per the schedule, West Indies Men’s team will play against India in a bilateral series including three formats such as 2 Tests, 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 5 Twenty-Twenties (T20s) in the coming days. The tour commenced on 12 July and will be concluded on 13 August.
