It is to be added that PM continues to share updates on the expected hurricane threat on his official social media handles. Few days ago  he stated on this official Facebook page that “Tropical storm Beryl” is fast approaching the island chains and expected to turn into a hurricane.”

PM further stated that the “Government departments are ready to avoid any untoward incident; however  people also need to be extra vigilant. Moreover  people must keep watch on the warnings issued by the local authorities and take them seriously to avoid damages.”

In this meeting  Prime Minister Skerrit met with the members of the National Emergency Planning Operation (NEPO), managers of the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO), and a representative of the Dominica Electricity Services Company (DOMLEC).

During this important meeting  discussions were also held if  weather  condition   worsen due to the adverse effect of the hurricane in the days ahead and necessary measures. The PM  directed the officials of the concerned department to prepare plans to tackle any emergency-like situation to prevent the loss of life and property.

The meeting was held when the country was under the tropical storm watch  which was discontinued on Monday by the announcement of Dominica Meteorological services. However  it is still under the flood watch.

According to the weather department of Dominica  the tropical storm has turned into a category three hurricane just within the last forty-four hours, which reflects its strength to create huge problems in case of delayed response. Moreover  this is the first time a hurricane has hit the eastern sides of the Lesser Antilles in June.

Notably  as per the meteorological department, if the hurricane enters category four  it will pose more   threats as  Category four hurricane can cause two to four inches of rainfall with  high waves up to ten feet.   Meanwhile  hurricane warnings are also in force for many other Caribbean countries such as Barbados, St. Vincent and Grenadine Island, Saint Lucia, etc.
