Dubai, UAE – In a rigorous campaign to curb illegal passenger transport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, in collaboration with the General Department of Airport Security, has impounded more than 220 private cars.
The vehicles were seized in multiple operations targeting hotspots known for unlicensed passenger transport activities.
The RTA disclosed that 90 cars were impounded following detailed inspections around Terminals 1, 2, and 3 of Dubai Airports (DXB).
These efforts were part of a coordinated operation aimed at ensuring that all passenger transport services operating within the emirate adhere to the regulatory framework set by the authorities.
Simultaneously, additional enforcement measures led to the impounding of 86 vehicles in Hatta and 49 cars in the Jebel Ali area.
Saeed Al Balooshi, Director of Passenger Transport Activities Monitoring at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized the importance of these operations.
He said, “In coordination with the Dubai Police General HQ, we conducted inspections of unlicensed passenger transport in several parts of the emirate, especially spots known for such illegal activities. We issued violations for passenger transport on unlicensed vehicles and promoting these services.”
The stringent measures are backed by Executive Council Resolution No. (20) of 2021, which amends the Executive Council Resolution No. (6) of 2016. This legislative framework regulates passenger transport by cars in Dubai and imposes hefty fines on those found violating the rules.
Individuals caught engaging in illegal passenger transport face fines of up to AED 30,000, while companies involved can be fined up to AED 50,000.
The crackdown underscores the RTA’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and safety of Dubai’s transport system.
By impounding vehicles operating outside the legal framework, the authorities aim to protect both the licensed transport operators and the passengers who may unknowingly use unregulated services.
“The safety and reliability of our transport system are paramount. Illegal passenger transport undermines these values and poses risks to the public”.
“Our coordinated inspections and strict enforcement are designed to deter these activities and ensure that only licensed operators provide transport services in Dubai,” Al Balooshi added.
The recent actions by the RTA are part of a broader strategy to enhance regulatory compliance and deter illegal transport activities.
The authority is continuously monitoring various parts of the emirate, employing both covert and overt inspection methods to identify and take action against unlicensed operators.
Public awareness campaigns are also being bolstered to educate residents and visitors about the risks associated with using unlicensed transport services.
The RTA is urging the public to use only licensed taxis and transport services, which can be identified through official branding and the presence of proper identification and licensing documentation.
As Dubai continues to grow as a global hub for tourism and business, ensuring a robust and compliant transport network remains a top priority for the authorities.
The recent impounding of over 220 cars is a clear message from the RTA and Dubai Police that illegal passenger transport will not be tolerated and that strict measures will be enforced to uphold the law.
The RTA’s proactive stance highlights their dedication to fostering a safe, reliable, and legally compliant transport environment, reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a city committed to the highest standards of public service and safety.
