Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has met with the UAE’s President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties in Dubai.
Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE had doubled trade exchange with Russia reaching five billion dollars.
The UAE’s foreign ministry earlier said the UAE ruler’s visit to Russia aims to help reach “effective political solutions” to the Ukrainian crisis.
The UAE called for diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for the rules and principles of international law.
The Gulf country “seeks to achieve positive results to ease military escalation, facilitate humanitarian repercussions, and gain a political settlement to achieve global peace and security,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Putin told the Gulf country’s President that the UAE had played a significant role in the region.
He added that Moscow wants energy markets to be balanced between supply and demand and that its actions aim to create stability in the energy sector.
The President of UAE also shared the photo with the Russian President with a caption.
The Gulf country “seeks to gain positive results to reduce military escalation, ease humanitarian repercussions, and get a political compromise to achieve global peace and security,” the ministry said.
Sheikh Mohamed last held an official in-person meeting with Mr Putin when he visited Abu Dhabi in 2019. That followed the Declaration of Strategic Partnership signed between the countries in 2018.
According to official reports, the leaders have spoken by phone a number of times since then.
