Dubai Residents Urged to Secure Electrical Systems Ahead of Rainy Season, DEWA Advises

“Ensuring that all electrical fixtures and fittings are well-maintained, waterproofed, and insulated is crucial,” the authority noted. DEWA’s focus is on minimizing risks associated with exposure to rain and dampness, which can lead to malfunctions or power outages

Dubai’s residents are being urged to prepare for the upcoming rainy season to ensure continued and safe electricity supplies, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) advised on Monday.

DEWA’s notice aims to prevent power interruptions and promote safety by encouraging proactive maintenance measures.

The advisory highlights key steps residents should take to prevent malfunctions and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during potential heavy rain and wind conditions.

DEWA advised customers to prioritize maintenance checks, particularly by engaging certified electricians to inspect and service electrical systems and infrastructure.

In its statement, DEWA stressed the importance of keeping all external electrical connections, panels, and meter boxes in proper working order, emphasizing the need for waterproofing and insulation.

“Ensuring that all electrical fixtures and fittings are well-maintained, waterproofed, and insulated is crucial,” the authority noted. DEWA’s focus is on minimizing risks associated with exposure to rain and dampness, which can lead to malfunctions or power outages.

Among the suggested measures, DEWA advises residents to securely close electrical panels, which can be vulnerable to water exposure. Residents should also replace any broken glass covers on electricity meters to prevent moisture from seeping in.

Additionally, DEWA recommends inspecting electrical conduits on rooftops and sealing any openings to guard against rainwater intrusion.

Earthing cables, which help ensure a stable power supply, should be checked regularly to confirm they are in safe working condition, the authority added.

To support residents further, DEWA offers a 24-hour emergency hotline for technical support at 991.

This service provides an immediate response to any power-related issues that may arise due to weather conditions, ensuring residents can access assistance when needed.

As part of its commitment to keeping residents informed, DEWA also shares seasonal safety tips and guidelines through its social media channels and website.

Residents can stay updated on the latest advice by following DEWA’s official accounts, particularly during periods of adverse weather.

The advisory is part of Dubai’s broader effort to enhance public safety during the rainy season. While the emirate typically experiences short but intense bouts of rainfall, the impact on infrastructure can be significant without proper preparation.

DEWA’s guidance encourages residents to take preventive actions to avoid disruptions and potential hazards caused by wet weather conditions.

As the rainier months approach, Dubai residents are urged to make necessary checks to ensure their homes and businesses are equipped to handle seasonal rains without compromising electrical safety.
