The Minister of Communications and Information Technology (CIT) Amr Talaat met with Telecom Egypt Chairman Magued Osman, the new Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Nasr Eldin, and the former CEO Adel Hamed.

During the meeting, the ICT Minister stated that Telecom Egypt is one of the executive arms seeking to achieve a Digital Egypt strategy. He hailed the significant role that Telecom Egypt plays in developing the telecommunications infrastructure nationwide and investing in the submarine cable infrastructure to leverage Egypt’s unique geographic location.

In addition to this, telecom Egypt also reinforces its strategic standing as a regional and global focal point for data traffic. It strengthens its position as a hub connecting Africa and the Middle East to Europe.

On his part, Talaat further wished more success to Eldin with his new position to achieve the strategic goals of Telecom Egypt. The ICT Minister also thanked Hamed for his efforts during his tenure as the Company’s CEO and for his contributions and achievements, including developing the telecommunications infrastructure at the international and national levels.

Efforts of Hamed acknowledged that he had put measures into improving the quality of telecommunications services provided to citizens. Furthermore, during his tenure, Telecom Egypt also contributed to implementing several projects to accelerate and enable digital transformation in Egypt. The ICT Minister wished him success and more achievements during the coming period.

Similarly, the Board of Directors of Telecom Egypt held a meeting. They approved the appointment of Mohamed Nasr Eldin as the Managing Director and CEO. According to reports, Hamed will remain on Telecom Egypt’s Board of Directors as a non-executive member.

It is worth noting that Eldin was appointed as a non-executive member of Telecom Egypt’s Board of Directors in July 2020, representing the government. He joined Telecom Egypt in 2004, eventually becoming Head of the International Cables and Networks Business Unit in 2014.

Moreover, during that period, he undertook several initiatives in submarine cable systems that contributed to capitalizing the Company’s revenues and Egypt’s strategic position as a route for international submarine cables.

Additionally, from May 2020 until March 2023, Eldin was Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

as per the sources, with over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, he specializes in planning, developing, and operating submarine cable systems and international networks.

The reports have confirmed that Eldin has extensive experience managing international programs and projects. He previously held several positions since 2016 at PCCW Global-the international operating division of Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT), including Head of Subsea Cable Infrastructure.

He also led the team responsible for planning new submarine cables and conducting feasibility, investment and strategic studies for these cables. He was also Vice President of Cable Innovation, Planning, and Management and Assistant Vice President of Cable Development for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa region (EMEA).

Notably, Eldin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Azhar University in 2001 and also obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
