Egypt: The Minister of Environment of Egypt, Yasmin Fouad, has attended an online meeting Via video conferencing feature with her Jordanian counterpart to discuss ways of cooperation on the global climate asylum initiative.
According to the reports, Dr Yasmin Fouad stated in her remarks, “We hope to work together to reach the Cop28 climate and refugees related initiative.” She met with the Ministerial Coordinator and Envoy of the Climate Conference COP27 and met Dr Muawya Khaled Al-Radaida, Jordanian Minister of Environment, via video conference feature.
In addition, this comes as a follow-up to her recent visit to the State of Jordan, in response to the invitation of Princess Alia bint Hussein, to place a brick of cooperation between the two countries in The Field of Nature Conservation, said reports.
Dr Yasmin Fouad, the Minister of Environment, confirmed that the meeting reviewed the initiative launched by the State of Jordan related to the “relationship of climate and refugees” and some points through which the initiative can be developed to reach Cop28 in the United Arab Emirates,
The initiative also emphasises the keenness of the Egyptian state to provide all aspects of support to the Jordanian side in this initiative. Especially countries that are experiencing the severe consequences of climate change and a significant increase in population due to climate or political asylum waves.
On her part, the environment minister, Fouad, added that the meeting looked for ways to cooperate with the United Nations Development Program to Accelerate Action on this initiative by the Cop28 climate conference, emphasizing the importance of this global initiative and the need to focus on its information and related policies for its implementation.
The Minister further said that in order to implement the initiative, the focus must be on the two parts, climate asylum and wars and disputes, and the need to link climate and the use of natural resources.
For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Environment pointed out that the main purpose of launching this initiative is to prioritize countries that suffer from the consequences of climate change and have waves of refugees that have several reasons of crises and wars in different regions of the world.
The initiative also led to a massive increase in population and to give them technical support Financial by assessing the extent of damage to such countries and prioritizing them to obtain adequate support, adding that the flood of refugees is a huge burden on the host countries where their resources are consumed, energy sources and services are depleted.
The Jordanian Minister of Environment also expressed his interest in the Egyptian experience in the field of reserves, and he welcomed the cooperation with the Egyptian side and offered the Jordanian experience in this regard, and benefiting from the experiences between the two sides.
It is stated that the meeting of the Minister of Environment with her Jordanian counterpart during her recent visit to the sister state of Jordan witnessed research strengthening cooperation between the Egyptian and Jordanian sides in the fields of ways of investment, preservation and biodiversity through the exchange of experiences and offering experiences between the two countries in these areas.
