Egypt: National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation organises book launch ceremony

Cairo: The National Museum of the Egyptian Civilisation recently organised a book launch event. The ceremony was held to launch the book titled "Egyptian Costumes..the Lost Heritage" by Professor Shahira Mehrez. Shahira Mehrez is a researcher in the field of heritage and traditional costumes. The event was organised by the Museum with the full cooperation of the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo.

The event was organised by the Museum with the full cooperation of the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo.

The book launch ceremony was held under the strategy of the Museum to organise and host different cultures and artistic events. The main aim of the Museum is to highlight and promotion of the heritage and culture of Egypt.

A large number of dignitaries were present on this occasion; these dignitaries included the foreign ambassador, public personalities, academicians, as well as a group of people who loved the art, culture and heritage of Egypt.

The opening speech was delivered by Dr Ahmad Ghaneem, who is the executive president of the museum. He welcomed all the attendees and also expressed his happiness over the organisation of a successful event. He described the role of the Museum in the upliftment of the cultural identity of Egypt in the time of globalisation.

On the other side, Dr Abbas Zawash, Director of Studies at the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo, also expressed happiness on being part of the event.

It is to be added that Shahira Mehrez also explained the details of her book. She added that the book included four volumes that display the heritage fashion, clothing and jewellery of Egyptian women in all cities of Egypt.

It is worth mentioning that Shahira Mehrex is a master’s degree holder in Islamic Art and Architecture from the American University in Cairo. She is also a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Art Museum. Moreover, she also worked as the Teaching faculty at Halwan University.

At the end of the event, professor Shahirqa Mehrez exchanged discussions and questions- answers with the audience. During this discussion session, she explained that how the book explains the influence of the community in shaping the Egyptian identity.
