Middle East, Egypt: The Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources has issued a statement regarding an extensive discussion session held between Engineer Tariq Mullah, Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, with Dr Stefan, the Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate for Parliamentary Affairs, during his visit to Cairo.

According to the shared updates, the visit has been headed by a large delegation of German companies for green energy, technology and infrastructure to research steps to activate cooperation with Egypt in natural gas. Liquid, hydrogen and green energies in the light of the Memorandum of Understanding agreed between the two sides last November.

This came in the presence of the German Ambassador to Cairo, Frank Hartmann, and a number of oil sector leaders and representatives of German companies in the delegation accompanying the German Deputy Minister said reports.

At the beginning of the meeting, Tariq Al-Mulla stressed the importance of this visit, which reflects the durability of relations between the two countries and the extent of the interest of the German side in developing partnership and economic ties with Egypt to include natural gas, green and sustainable energy.

The meeting further focused on the great interest that the world pays towards climate change due to global innovations and that this cooperation is supported by the historically stretched political relations between the two countries. 

Noting that, President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Germany last July focused on opening the horizons of energy cooperation and held extensive discussions with German companies in the fields of energy supply and sustainable energy security.

The reports stated that there are great opportunities and multiple areas for cooperation between Egypt and Germany in joint projects to invest in Egypt’s potential natural resources, such as natural gas and green energies like hydrogen, by attracting many German companies to employ cutting-edge technologies in the energy field and solutions owned by both countries, Mullah added.

He further noted the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides months ago as a key focus of cooperation between Egypt and Germany in green energy. During the meeting, the Mulla revealed that Egypt is announcing its national strategy for producing hydrogen during the coming period.

On his part, Dr Stefan expressed his happiness to visit Egypt for the second time in a few months and to meet Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Engineer Tariq Al Mullah again after participating in the Climate Summit Cop27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Lafta that this summit in which all the countries of the world gathered on Egypt was an opportunity A mission to export new hope to the peoples of the world in the condition of climate change.

He further explained that his visit to Cairo with German companies is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in the energy field, confirming Germany’s interest in activating cooperation with Egypt to meet the demand for liquefied natural gas and sustainable energies such as hydrogen.

He added that the working teams from both sides are working to activate the areas of cooperation mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding and that the invitation of German companies in the energy field to come to Egypt is aimed at taking steps to determine implementation priorities and areas of interest in working in.

Additionally, on their part, representatives of German companies and institutions working in the fields and energy projects reviewed the possibilities and opportunities of cooperation with Egypt in the areas of liquefied natural gas, hydrogen and green ammonia, confirming that Egypt has promising prospects and is an important supplier of liquefied natural gas.

Notably, the discussions were attended by Dr Majda Jalal, the head of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company, Engineer Ahmed Khalifa, the agent of the Ministry of Petroleum for Projects, and Engineer Alaa Hijar, the agent of the Ministry of Oil for the Technical Office, and Dr Samir Qaraish, the deputy head of the Green Energy Natural Gas Company.
