The Minister of Tourism and Monuments for Egypt, Ahmed Issa, issued a ministerial decision on adopting the conditions and standards of evaluating environmental hotels (Eco-Friendly) Ecolodge.

The decision was taken by the Minister, Ahmed Issa, regarding the evaluation of Eco Hotels in line with the criteria for Hotel Facility Classification (HC), developed in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization.

In addition, this comes in the context of the Ministry of Tourism and the effects’ focus on improving the tourism investment climate in Egypt, increasing the volume of hotel energy and diversifying its styles along with improving the investment climate, which has seen significant improvement over the past period.

Minister, Issa further confirmed that the efforts are undergoing further development, which is one of the works paths the Ministry is targeting through the strategic goals.

The National Movement for Tourism Development in Egypt, especially in light of the Hotel and Tourism Facilities Act issued by Law No. 8 of 2022, after the Cabinet approved the draft issue of its Executive Regulation last February.

According to this decision, eco hotels will be classified as one, two, and three stars. This rating does not mean they will provide services at a lower quality level than other hotel facilities. Still, this classification has come due to the nature of these facilities and the reflection in the size and nature of their supplies from those in other hotel facilities.

The reports stated that these requirements and standards for the evaluation of environmental hotels had been approved in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Environment after taking the opinion and compliance with the Hotel Facilities Room and the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Rooms.

The compliance comes within the framework of the Ministry’s policy towards full coordination with the private sector in many matters or decisions related to the tourism business. It contributes to the governance and regulation of various tourist activities in Egypt, said reports.

Moreover, this decision will play a significant role in supporting the supervision role of the Ministry as an organizer, regulator and license to work within the tourism industry in Egypt. These regulations will contribute to the regulation of work and monitoring of activities of the Adventure Tourism Product.

Additionally, one of the tourism styles targeted by the Ministry in the coming period, and it is keen to meet the requirements of the product and the increase in the number of hotel rooms available to it, especially since it is a Premium Product whose pioneers have a special and distinctive nature.

Notably, adventure tourism tourists came among the top five categories of potential tourists for Egypt according to a marketing survey conducted in the past period, alongside tourists looking for cultural tourism products and beach tourism.
