Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has announced the launch of the new Airbus A321LR, as the airline continues to expand its fleet and network following record profits last year.

The first A321LR will enter service on August 1, 2025, with 10 aircraft joining the fleet this year, marking a significant step in Etihad’s transformation strategy.

The new aircraft will operate out of Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, flying to destinations including Algiers, Athens, Bangkok, Chennai, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Phuket, Riyadh, Tunis, and Zurich.

Over the next few years, Etihad plans to receive around 10 new aircraft annually through 2025, 2026, and 2027, significantly enhancing its global reach.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, highlighted the airline’s ambitious expansion plans. “In 2025, we will add between 20 to 22 new planes. We’re going to be gaining about 20 planes every year for the next four to five years so that we get to 170 planes and 33 million passengers,” Neves said.

The introduction of the Airbus A321LR represents a pivotal moment in Etihad’s growth strategy, aligning with its 2030 vision to double its fleet size, triple its passenger count, and introduce 16 new destinations by 2025.

Neves also emphasized the airline’s focus on enhancing the passenger experience, particularly by bringing a widebody luxury experience to a narrow-body aircraft for the first time.

“With our new First Suites, 14 lie-flat Business seats with direct-aisle access, and upgraded Economy, we’ve taken the luxury experience which we are famed for on our widebody fleet and adapted it to offer guests the same experience in a single-aisle aircraft — all while keeping them seamlessly connected with superfast, streaming Wi-Fi throughout the journey,” he said.

The all-new First Suite offers passengers a private, enclosed space with a sliding door, lie-flat bed, elevated dining, and bespoke design features. With only two exclusive First Suites available on board, Etihad is redefining luxury travel on short and medium-haul routes.

The Business cabin has been designed with widebody-style seats, all forward-facing with direct aisle access. Each seat includes a 17.3-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth headphone pairing, wireless charging, and ample personal storage, ensuring a seamless and connected journey.

In Economy, 144 seats offer enhanced ergonomics, up to five inches of recline, and generous space. Each seat features a 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen, USB charging, and access to the airline’s entertainment system.

Etihad is also enhancing services for First Class passengers, offering a private chauffeur service to and from the airport, dedicated check-in, access to the Etihad First Lounge, and personalized escort services throughout the journey.

In Abu Dhabi, First Class guests will soon enjoy complimentary Home Check-In and Land & Leave services, providing a truly baggage-free airport experience.

“First isn’t just a seat — it’s an experience that starts the moment you choose to fly with us,” Neves concluded.

The launch of the A321LR highlights Etihad’s commitment to growth, innovation, and providing an unparalleled travel experience for its passengers.
