The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm local time, caught the attention of nearby residents and passersby.

“I was returning from Taraweeh prayers when I saw thick smoke rising from the top floors of my neighbouring building. At first, I thought it was the tower I resided in. When I reached the building, I saw many people out on the streets,” recounted a resident who wished to remain anonymous.

Emergency services sprang into action, with fire alarms blaring throughout the building and response teams swiftly mobilizing to the scene.

By 9:45 pm, multiple firefighting units from the Sharjah Civil Defence Department had arrived to combat the blaze and ensure the safety of residents.

One eyewitness stated, “Residents of other blocks were also evacuated as a precautionary measure,” highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The thick smoke obscured visibility in the vicinity, making it challenging for some residents to discern the severity of the incident.

“I was not aware of the situation and was engrossed in work. At around 10 pm, the entire street was packed with people, and that is when I learnt about the fire,” remarked Shahid, a grocer in the area.

He added that the building was likely fully evacuated by 10:30 pm, reflecting the efficiency of the evacuation efforts.

The Sharjah Civil Defence Department deployed a concerted effort to contain the fire, with multiple firefighting teams working tirelessly to bring the situation under control.

Dense smoke blanketed the area, further complicating the firefighting operation. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are underway to ascertain the events leading up to the incident.

Concerns regarding the structural integrity of the building and the well-being of residents remain paramount as the aftermath of the fire is assessed.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings, prompting calls for enhanced precautions and emergency preparedness in residential complexes across the region.

As dawn breaks over Al Nahda, Sharjah, the community remains in a state of shock, grappling with the aftermath of the devastating fire.

While the flames may have been extinguished, the impact of the incident reverberates through the neighborhood, underscoring the need for vigilance and proactive measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
