UMM AL QUWAIN — A fire broke out at a factory in the Umm Al Thuoob industrial area of Umm Al Quwain on Friday, prompting a swift response from the Civil Defence teams in the emirate. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.
The Civil Defence Management Centre in Umm Al Quwain stated that the blaze was brought under control before it could spread to nearby buildings, preventing what could have been a more severe disaster.
The prompt containment efforts were led by Maj-Gen Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defence, and Brig Dr. Salem Hamad bin Hamdah, Director of the Civil Defence Department in Umm Al Quwain.
According to the authorities, emergency teams were dispatched immediately after the fire was reported. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames and secure the site.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and officials have not yet released details regarding the extent of the damage to the factory or the materials involved.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick plumes of smoke rising from the factory site as firefighters battled the blaze. One witness, Ahmed Saleh, a nearby worker, described the scene as alarming.
“The smoke was dark and intense. We were worried it might spread to other factories, but the firefighters acted quickly,” he said.
The rapid response highlights the readiness of Civil Defence teams in handling industrial incidents, especially in areas like Umm Al Thuoob, which houses numerous factories and warehouses.
Authorities praised the coordinated efforts of the firefighters and urged industrial facilities to adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officials are expected to assess compliance with fire safety standards at the affected site.
The Civil Defence has also advised businesses in the area to review their safety protocols and ensure that fire prevention systems are functional.
