Dubai Public Prosecution is investigating five Ethiopian nationals accused of breaking into the offices of four trading companies in the Al Ras area and stealing cash from their safes. The suspects reportedly made off with approximately Dh30,000, according to a statement by Dubai authorities.
The robbery was discovered in the early hours when the owners of the affected companies arrived at their offices and found the premises ransacked. The safes were forced open, and cash was missing. Dubai Police were immediately alerted, prompting a swift response by a joint team comprising patrol officers, crime scene specialists, and forensic experts.
Upon arrival, officers found documents, files, and other materials strewn across the floors of the office spaces, clear signs of forced entry and a hurried search for valuables. Forensic teams collected fingerprints and other physical evidence from the crime scene, while investigators reviewed nearby CCTV footage to trace the perpetrators.
Video evidence revealed the suspects fleeing the scene in a Toyota Corolla. Investigators quickly obtained the car’s licence plate number and used it to locate the vehicle and arrest the driver. During interrogation, the driver confessed to his involvement and provided the identities and whereabouts of his four accomplices.
In coordination with law enforcement agencies in Abu Dhabi, the remaining suspects were tracked down and arrested in the capital. All five individuals confessed to the crime during questioning.
Police recovered Dh18,000 in cash from the suspects, who admitted that the rest of the stolen amount had been sent to their home country through unofficial channels. The case remains under investigation as authorities prepare to formally charge the individuals involved.
The coordinated effort between Dubai and Abu Dhabi police forces underscores the high level of collaboration between law enforcement entities in the UAE, especially in cross-emirate crimes.
Dubai Police have urged business owners to upgrade security measures in their offices, including reinforced safe installations, motion-triggered alarms, and high-definition surveillance systems to deter such incidents.
The Dubai Public Prosecution is expected to formally charge the suspects once all evidence is compiled and reviewed. The case is likely to be brought before the courts in the coming weeks.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding businesses and communities across the city. “We will continue to use all available resources to ensure that criminal elements are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” a Dubai Police spokesperson said.
The swift resolution of this case reflects the UAE’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime and the efficiency of its investigative mechanisms, especially in dealing with coordinated theft and cross-emirate criminal operations.
