United Arab Emirates: Under the patronage of Vice-President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Police Academy announced the date for the grand graduation ceremony for male and female cadets on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Dubai Police Academy graduation arena.

A press conference was held at the Dubai Police Academy on Wednesday, during which the Academy confirmed the completion of all preparations for organizing the graduation ceremony, in which 958 male and female cadet officers and university students will participate in distinguished military performances and formations and impressive technical displays.

The press conference was attended by Major General Ghaith Ghanem Al Suwaidi, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Academy and Training Affairs; Dr Brigadier Mohammed Butti Al Shamsi, Acting Director of the Dubai Police Academy; Brigadier Sultan Ali Khamis Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of the Dubai Police Academy, and Dr Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Yousef Al Shehhi, Dean of the Academy, in the presence of many officers, partners, and media representatives.

During the meeting, Major General Al Suwaidi expressed his utmost appreciation to the wise leadership of the United Arab Emirates for their continued support towards the Dubai Police Academy. 

He emphasized the importance of loyalty and dedication to the nation and its leadership to move forward towards progress and success.

Looking forward to the future with great ambition, he said, “This year’s graduation ceremony will feature the participation of 958 male and female cadets and university students in impressive military performances, formations, and technical displays.”

In his remarks, he added that the Dubai Police Academy takes great pride in graduating distinguished cadets each year, and the ceremony marks a significant milestone in the institution’s academic and training journey. 

He referred to the Academy as a ‘Scientific and Knowledge Edifice” of the Dubai Police General Command. He further highlighted the importance of the Academy in qualifying exceptional officers to serve the country.

“We celebrate this year as we take firm steps towards the future, confident that the forthcoming years will be filled with prosperity under a leadership that is committed to launching sustainable initiatives and projects to boost the country’s global position and enhance the quality of life for its people,” he added.

Sustainable Development

He pointed out that the preparation for this year’s ceremony received great attention from the Dubai Police General Command, under the guidance and direct follow-up of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Academy.

This is due to the importance of the annual event, which highlights the vital role of the Academy in providing the country with qualified human cadres that contribute to supporting the state’s efforts in achieving sustainable development and a comprehensive renaissance.

Three Distinguished Batches

The Acting Director of the Dubai Police Academy, Dr Brigadier Mohammed Butti Al Shamsi, has announced that 186 male and female cadets will be graduating this year from the Academy, representing various security and legal fields at various scientific levels.

He further stated that the graduates include 56 cadets from the 30th batch of the Bachelor of Law and Police Sciences programme, 39 cadets from the 2nd batch of undergraduate students in the security and criminal sciences programme, and 21 cadets from the 3rd batch of female students in the same programme.

He explained that the Academy would also be celebrating the graduation of 70 undergraduate students, highlighting its commitment to high academic excellence in line with its vision. 

“The Academy is fully committed to supporting the youths in obtaining the best scientific certificates in training, legal and security scientific research per the best global standards,” Al Shamsi noted.

“This commitment is in line with the directives of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri and the follow-up of Major General Ghaith Ghanem Al Suwaidi. 

The Academy continues to harness all material and human capabilities to ensure the success and development of the young generation and to meet the growing demand for highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals in law enforcement and public safety,” Al Shamsi said.

Great Place to Work

According to Dr Brigadier Mohammed Butti Al Shamsi, the Dubai Police Academy has maintained a top-notch working environment over the past years by keeping up with all the latest developments, which has allowed the Academy to achieve a distinguished scientific level and notable accomplishments.

“The Academy has been recognized by the Great Place to Work ME as the best work environment among police institutions for the past three years,” “Through its improved educational outputs, the Academy has been contributing to the achievement of comprehensive renaissance and sustainable development, by empowering citizens of the Gulf and Arab countries to become active participants in the development programmes of their nations,” he confirmed

Al Shamsi highlighted that the Academy has successfully seen the graduation of 7,612 students since its establishment. This includes 2,821 male and 84 female cadet officers, 395 students from regular evening studies, and 380 from master’s programmes in law. 

In addition, 167 students graduated from master’s programmes in police sciences, 95 from doctoral programmes in law and police sciences, and 926 university students.

Accompanying Festivities and Events

Brigadier Sultan Ali Khamis Al Shamsi, Acting Deputy Director of the Dubai Police Academy, confirmed that the male and female officer cadets have been armed and equipped with science and knowledge and a high level of skills and tools.

“Since its establishment in 1987, the Academy has been offering several sports and military training per the best international experiences and practices in the field to qualify the cadets in the post-graduation phase to empower them into supporting the Dubai Police operations, serving the nation, and enhancing the security and safety of our society”, he added.

Brig. Al Shamsi indicated that a bundle of events accompanying the graduation would be held over four consecutive days, starting on Thursday in the City Walk area at 6:15 pm, then on Friday in the Kite Beach area at 4:00 pm, on Saturday in the Al Khawaneej Walk area at 6:15 pm, and finally at the Global Village at 6:15 pm. 

He explained that the activities include a military parade performance, police band shows, luxury patrols, and a K9 police dog show.

Instagram Contest

The accompanying activities also include a mini graduation show and a spectacular military parade performance by the Hemaya School students at the Dubai Festival City Mall on Friday, March 3, followed by a water and laser show of the World Police Summit, a film projection on the InterContinental Dubai Festival City façade, and breath-taking performances by Dubai Police band, mounted police and K9 Unit. 

Moreover, the audience will have an opportunity to meet and interact with Dubai Police mascots Mansour and Amna.

During the event, the audience will have a chance to join a contest on Instagram by capturing photos or snap videos no longer than one minute of the live parade held at the waterfront of Dubai Festival City Mall, share them on their Instagram account with the hashtags #DPA_Graduation_Ceremony, and tagging @DUBAIPOLICEHQ.

18 Academic Programmes

Colonel Dr Ahmed Mohammad Yousef Al Shehhi, Dean of the Dubai Police Academy, reaffirmed the keenness of the Dubai Police Academy to constantly introduce accredited academic programmes to keep pace with current and future developments and challenges.

“The Academy is also eager to foster development plans that achieve pioneering in education and scientific research in accordance to an effective and efficient work vision that meets the policing and security needs of the Emirate of Dubai in particular and the UAE community in general,” he added.

Col. Al Shehhi also indicated that the Academy offers 18 academic programmes, including two bachelor’s degrees in Security & Criminal Sciences and Law & Police Sciences, a Criminal Investigation Diploma, and ten master’s programmes in Public and Private Law, Human Rights, Criminal Investigation, Law and Environment, International Trade and Investment Law, Criminal Sciences, Security Crisis Management, Police Sciences and Criminal Investigation, and Intellectual Property Law. 

In addition, five doctoral programmes in the fields of Public, Private, and Criminal Laws, Security Crisis Management, and a PhD in Philosophy in Criminal Law.
