Abu Dhabi, UAE—The UAE weather department has issued a red alert for heavy fog formation on Thursday morning, causing significant concerns for motorists traveling between major cities.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) warned of dense fog affecting visibility on key highways, particularly impacting the route from Abu Dhabi to Dubai on E311.

Motorists are strongly advised to drive with caution as the foggy conditions are expected to persist until 8:30 AM.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of reducing speed, maintaining safe distances, and utilizing appropriate vehicle lighting to safely navigate low-visibility conditions.

Driving Safety Measures in Effect

In both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, local authorities have activated several safety measures to mitigate the risks associated with the fog. Drivers are urged to slow down, use fog lights, and maintain a considerable distance between vehicles.

The speed reduction system has been triggered on several roads in Abu Dhabi, limiting speeds to 80 km/h to enhance safety.

The NCM has issued a specific warning stating, “Fog formation with a deterioration in horizontal visibility may drop even further at times over some coastal and internal areas until 8:30 AM on Thursday.”

Wind conditions will be light to moderate, and the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are predicted to have slight sea conditions. Temperature highs in internal areas could reach up to 47℃, with lows around 26℃, and humidity levels are expected to climb to 75%.
