New Delhi, India: India has moved up six spots to number 38 out of 139 countries on the World Bank’s Logistic Performance Index (LPI) 2023 as a consequence of significant investments in both technology and soft and hard infrastructure.

India rose from 44th in the index in 2018 to 38th in the ranking for 2023. The performance of India has improved dramatically since 2014 when it was ranked 54th on the LPI.

By 2024–2025, the PM Gati Shakti programme, a National Master Plan for multimodal connectivity, aims to reduce transportation costs and improve the nation’s infrastructure. It was presented in October 2021.

In order to ensure quick last-mile delivery, address transportation-related challenges, aid the manufacturing sector in saving time and money, and achieve the necessary speed in the logistics sector, the prime minister proposed the National Logistics Policy (NLP) in 2022.

The improvement in India’s LPI and other indices shows that these policy measures are having an impact. According to studies, India’s infrastructure ranking rose five spots, from 52nd in 2018 to 47th in 2023. In addition to rising up four ranks to 48th in terms of logistical competency and equity, it improved from 44th in 2018 to 22nd in 2023 for international shipments.
