Kalinago Multipurpose Centre and Emergency Shelter project will be historic: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

The government of Dominica has recently signed contract with several firms including OYO Construction Inc. and Virtuoso Architects Ltd (Joint Venture) for the completion of the project.

While taking to Facebook, PM Skerrit shared information about this significant development, stating, “The Kalinago Multipurpose Centre and Emergency Shelter is our government’s major investment for welfare initiative of Kalinago people.”

He also mentioned that the ongoing project is valued at EC$7.6 million will be co-financed by Government of Dominica and Government of Canada.

As per the information the Canadian government will contribute in community disaster risk reduction fund which is being implemented by the Caribbean Development Bank.

It is worth to note that EC$5.5 million out of total project cost will be extended in form of grant funding by Government of Canada, whereas remaining EC$3.0 million will be contributed by government of Dominica.

During the contract signing ceremony Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his happiness about the proposed project. He underlined that this major project reflects the commitment of our government for overall welfare of Kalinago community. Dr Skerrit in his address reiterated his government’s commitment for the empowerment of Kalinago people.

PM Skerrit also added, “This is very historic moment for all of us. This is our government’s new year gift to Kalinago community. I am sure this project will add extra values to rich architectural beauty of area which tell us about history, traditions, customs of Kalinago.”

On this occasion the Minister of the Environment, Rural Modernization and Kalinago Upliftment, Cozier Frederick was also present. He also addressed the attendees present at the contract signing ceremony.

While thanking PM Skerrit and his government minister said, I am glad to be part of this government working unconditionally for Kalinago people.

Similarly Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernization and Kalinago Upliftment Lucien Blackmoore addressed gathering there.

In this address Lucien Blackmoore said this project will lead Dominica to be first climate resilient nation of the world which will be historic achievement for all of us.
