The first-ever in-person meeting between the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on climate change will be conducted in Dubai between February 28 and March 3. The meet will probably play a critical role in mobilising climate finance for sustainable development.
The meeting is scheduled to kick off the Regional Climate Weeks in 2022 and establish new cooperation on climate change. The meet will indeed support climate change at the regional level. This will also start connections with another climate week at regional or global level.
It will be the first opportunity to implement the Paris Agreement and Glasgow Climate Pact, adopted at COP29 in November.
The meet will provide an opportunity to private organisations, educational institutions, non-government organisations, and youth organisations to showcase or exhibit their ideas, innovations or works on the stage in 15 to 20 minutes. The interested member may participate through any medium – event plan, financial support, or participate in the organisations of events. These events would be conducted on Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the statement shared by UN climate change secretariat, this climate week is an opportunity for civil society, youth, government and the private sector to engage and encourage socio-economic grounds to find the solution for global changes at the international level.
Minister for Climate Change and Environment, UAE, Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, said, “The Glasgow Climate Pact is a roadway to achieve the Paris Agreement, and a wake-up call to work together on recovery from the global environmental crisis.”
The climate change minister has also urged stakeholders across the globe to join and attend the MENA Climate Week 2022 as well as share critical points to overcome the problem.
On the same breadth, UN Climate Change’s Executive Secretary, Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, commented that MENA climate week would provide a platform to work on the regional collaborations to reduce vulnerability and give fuel to a low-emission future.
