New Three-Lane Bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road Enhances Traffic Flow as Part of Al Shindagha Corridor Project

The newly opened bridge is part of Phase 4 of the project, which stretches along Sheikh Rashid Road from the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection to the Falcon Interchange on Al Mina Street, covering a total length of 4.8 km

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the opening of a new three-lane bridge on Sunday, connecting Sheikh Rashid Road to Infinity Bridge.

This bridge marks a significant milestone in the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which aims to enhance traffic flow and accommodate the growing transportation demands in Dubai.

The newly opened bridge is part of Phase 4 of the project, which stretches along Sheikh Rashid Road from the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection to the Falcon Interchange on Al Mina Street, covering a total length of 4.8 km.

The entire project, which includes the construction of three additional bridges, will significantly ease traffic congestion in one of Dubai’s busiest corridors.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project includes a total of 3.1 km of bridges designed to accommodate up to 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.

The new bridge is the first of the three planned structures to open, with the second bridge, linking Al Mina Intersection to Sheikh Rashid Road intersection, expected to open in the first half of January 2024.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized the project’s importance in keeping pace with the area’s ongoing urban and population growth.

“The new bridge enhances traffic flow from Sheikh Rashid Road to Infinity Bridge, starting at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and extending through to the intersection of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street with Al Mina Street,” said Al Tayer.

The three bridges being constructed as part of the project vary in length and capacity. The first bridge, which opened on Sunday, spans 1,335 meters and features three lanes in each direction, with the ability to accommodate 10,800 vehicles per hour.

The second bridge, measuring 780 meters, will serve traffic flowing from Falcon Interchange towards Al Wasl Road, with a capacity of 5,400 vehicles per hour.

The third bridge, measuring 985 meters with two lanes, will facilitate traffic from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street towards Falcon Interchange, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.

In addition to the bridges, the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project also includes the development of 4.8 km of roads, improvements to surface intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street.

The project will also see the construction of two pedestrian bridges, one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street, alongside the installation of street lighting, traffic systems, and a rainwater drainage network.

The project is currently 71% complete, and once fully finished, it will further ease traffic congestion in the area, supporting Dubai’s growing infrastructure needs.

With its strategic location and significant impact on the city’s transportation network, the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is expected to be a major contributor to improving the daily commute for thousands of residents and commuters in Dubai.
