Sharjah Police Intensify Crackdown on Noisy and Reckless Motorists

Sharjah Police have launched an intensified field crackdown targeting noisy vehicles, reckless drivers, and unlicensed motorists, resulting in the seizure of 73 vehicles and 25 motorcycles as authorities push to enhance safety and curb disruptive road behaviour

Sharjah Police have seized 73 vehicles and 25 motorcycles as part of a strengthened operation aimed at curbing dangerous driving and reducing noise pollution across the emirate. Officials announced the results on Wednesday following several days of intensive field inspections.

Authorities said officers detected multiple violations, including reckless and dangerous driving, causing excessive noise, and operating vehicles without a licence. Police urged motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations to ensure public safety and avoid severe penalties.

Noise violations remain a major point of concern. Under Article 20 of the Federal Traffic Law, drivers whose vehicles exceed 95 decibels face a Dh2,000 fine, 12 black points, and vehicle confiscation for up to six months.

The campaign follows a surge in public complaints, particularly from residents in the central region. “Stunts performed by drivers on the roads and the noise and pollution caused by these vehicles are a cause of concern,” Major-General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, had previously stated.

Earlier this year, Sharjah intensified inspections against modified vehicles after repeated reports of disturbances late at night. Officials noted that noise-producing exhausts and illegal alterations remain common among younger drivers.

In neighbouring Dubai, authorities are also expanding efforts to combat disruptive vehicle noise. The police have increased the rollout of smart noise-detection radars designed to monitor excessive engine sounds, modified exhausts, unnecessary honking, and loud music from car audio systems.

The radar system identifies the exact source of noise and automatically records violations once limits are breached. It forms part of Dubai Police’s broader smart traffic technology platform aimed at improving road behaviour and reducing disturbances in residential neighbourhoods.

Sharjah Police said such enforcement campaigns will continue throughout the year.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining road safety and addressing behaviours that negatively impact the community’s quality of life.
