Sharjah, UAE – Residents of Al Hoshi and surrounding areas in Sharjah can now expect a more reliable electricity supply, even during the peak summer months, following the inauguration of a new power plant by the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (Sewa).
The newly operational Al Hoshi power plant, constructed at a cost of Dh23 million, aims to reduce power outages and enhance the overall electricity network in the emirate.
Equipped with advanced 33/11 kV technology, the plant is designed to improve efficiency and accommodate the increasing number of residential and commercial properties in the area.
“With summer approaching and electricity demand surging due to air conditioning and cooling systems operating at full capacity, this plant plays a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted power supply,” said Eng. Hamad Al-Tunaiji, Director of the Power Transmission Department at Sewa.
“This initiative strengthens our electricity transmission and distribution networks, guaranteeing residents a seamless service.”
A Step Towards Sustainable Infrastructure
The project aligns with the broader vision of Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, who continues to drive infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
The Al Hoshi plant is part of Sewa’s extensive infrastructure upgrade, which has included electricity network enhancements at 133 locations, reducing disruptions across Sharjah.
In addition to reinforcing the power grid, the authority has made significant strides in improving water and lighting services throughout the emirate.
Expanding Electricity and Water Networks
Beyond Al Hoshi, Sewa is investing heavily in Kalba, where six major lighting projects worth Dh24.4 million have been completed. These projects have contributed to safer roads and brighter neighborhoods, benefiting thousands of residents.
Additionally, Sewa has expanded its water network, adding more than 3,200 new connections this year alone to support the growing population.
Further infrastructure upgrades are underway, with six more lighting projects scheduled for completion in Kalba by the end of the year.
To address rising water demand, Sewa is undertaking a massive Dh50 million expansion of its water network in Kalba.
Meanwhile, in Hamriyah, a new desalination plant is set to produce 90 million gallons of water per day, ensuring long-term sustainability in water supply.
“These improvements mean fewer power cuts, better lighting, and stronger water supply for thousands of residents across Sharjah,” Al-Tunaiji emphasized.
Future Infrastructure Development
The newly inaugurated Al Hoshi power plant is a crucial addition to Sharjah’s infrastructure, reinforcing Sewa’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in energy and water management.
As urban development continues across the emirate, such strategic investments will play a key role in ensuring a stable and sustainable future for all residents.
With major power, water, and lighting projects in progress, Sharjah’s infrastructure continues to evolve, keeping pace with the emirate’s rapid growth and ensuring reliable utility services in all sectors.
