St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew honours residents during third annual Gala Dinner & Awards

St Kitts and Nevis: Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, hosted the third annual Gala Dinner & Awards for the people of Constituency 8 on April 22, 2023, under the theme “New Beginnings: Connecting our people”. The event was organized at Royal St Kitts Hotel and attended by numerous people.

The primary objective of organizing the event is to honour the residents’ efforts who significantly contribute to the nation’s development without seeking profits or advantages. Minister Drew presented them with awards for their service and appreciated their numerous efforts for the country and its inhabitants.

Numerous people from St Kitts and Nevis attended the Gala event. Additionally, political personalities and leaders of the Labour Party, such as Willa Franks Liburd, Minister Denzil Douglas, Ambassador Cedric Liburd, and Minister Denzil Douglas, also joined the award ceremony.

At the Annual Constituency 8 Dinner and Awards Gala, Mrs Willa Franks Liburd delivered the keynote speech. At the same time, PM Drew addressed the audience and discussed all the essential topics for the welfare of the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.

In her remarks, Mrs Liburd discussed the event’s theme and the history of St. Kitts and Nevis. Her statements reduced specific worries and impressed PM Drew.

PM Drew thanked all the guests for attending the Gala event while addressing the people of St. Kitts & Nevis. He emphasizes that the keynote speaker’s speech did an excellent job summarizing the theme, “New Beginnings: Connecting Our People.”

He added that Mrs Liburd mentioned various essential things in her speech, including some pearls of wisdom, but two stood out for him. She explained people’s history and that the history should begin as early as possible and everyone should have access,” said Minister Drew.

He claimed that when these words of wisdom were being spoken, he turned to face the minister of education, Geoffrey Hanley, and noticed that he was nodding, indicating that he had absorbed them for September.

PM Terrance Drew spoke to the keynote speaker’s remarks and noted that she referred to the need for financial literacy instruction in the curriculum.

He asserted that these are the two most important factors the government should consider when it updates and examines a new education curriculum to meet the needs of its citizens in the twenty-first century.

PM Drew said to Mrs Willa Franks Liburd, “So, Madam Speaker, those two things have resonated with the minister of education,” By his nodding, I think we will see some action on those coming September. I will not be surprised if he calls on you to help him as he lays out this new approach.”

The PM continued to engage with the residents of Constituency 8 and told them they had the chance to forge a new path that may result in sustainable development.

Speaking about the development of sustainable energy Minister Drew highlighted that the administration of St Kitts and Nevis aims to make the island powered by sustainable energy to ensure that every resident can access good, cheap and reliable energy sources.

St Kitts and Nevis’s Prime Minister also discussed the enormous task of developing the country into climate resilience to tackle climate change’s effects as the Caribbean region is most vulnerable to climate change.

To perform this task, Minister Drew clarifies that his administration is not only limited to the constituency but aims to do it nationally by spreading throughout the island and setting an example, encouraging the entire world.

Terrance Drew emphasized that the Federation of the Twin Islands is in an excellent position to accomplish this. He added that the keynote speaker’s speech, in which she discussed the World Bank and examined the nation’s GDP, caught his attention.

He spoke with an economist before coming here who said he wanted to talk to him since St. Kitts is precisely at the right to get it done. The PM emphasized that he wanted to ensure they took the proper steps to propel St Kitts into the stratosphere of economic development, sustainability, and prosperity for everybody.

Minister Drew stated that he observes a GDP of 18000 USD. He also paid great attention to the IMF when he went to Washington recently, ensuring the twin-island federation had enough sources. Minister Drew intends to strengthen the platform with good governance, ensuring that his management manages it nicely.

Before arriving here, he spoke with an economist who said he was interested in speaking with him since St Kitts is at the ideal point for takeoff. The prime minister clarified that he wants to ensure that the right actions were taken to take St Kitts into the stratosphere of economic progress, sustainability, and prosperity for all.

PM Drew said no country with huge inequalities between those who have and those who don’t could effectively create resilience, sustainability and prosperity for all. The prime minister stated, “And as a result, I want to say that this is why we are looking seriously at dealing with the minimum wage here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

PM Terrance Drew emphasized the significance of hosting these awards and said it was essential to recognize the people’s achievements because many give more to the island nation than they receive.

According to him, the honorees represent a wide range of professional pursuits, from those who work in environmental fields to those who have attained the highest levels of professional development.

During the event, Minister Drew appreciated the efforts of the awardees put for the welfare of the people. He stated that all of our people, despite where they are or who they are, contributed honestly in a reliable way to the country’s development. That’s why it is essential to admire them.

Minister Drew emphasizes that sometimes an individual feels like they are not appreciated enough for his efforts. “Tonight, by awarding them for their dedication, hard work and service, we want to express how much we love you and are grateful for all you have done for the country without seeking anything in return”, said PM Drew.

While ending his address, Minister Drew once again outlined the event’s theme and said, “When we speak about connecting our people, when you observe everything they are doing, it’s not complicated to understand that their efforts have brought people together”.

Appreciating the awardees, Minister Drew said that these people had demonstrated the spirit of new beginnings, constantly developing opportunities with their efforts and bringing people together.

PM Drew said, “On behalf of constituency number 8, thank you so much for your contribution, dedication and efforts made for the collective good.”
