Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew is all set to hold an extensive meeting with the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, in the United States – Caribbean Leaders Meeting. 

The meeting to be hosted by PM Terrance Drew and US Vice President Harris is scheduled to be held in the Bahamas next week on June 8th 2023, where both the ministers will be accompanied by a number of Presidents and Prime Ministers from the Caribbean region.

According to recent information, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, the current chair of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), will join US Vice President Kamala Harris to co-host the special meeting of the leaders.

In addition, it has also been outlined by the United States Embassy in the Bahamas that the upcoming meeting will be an expansion of the previous meetings held among the Caribbean leaders in April last year, along with the sitting held in June and September 2022 of the Americas in Los Angeles.

Furthermore, the reports stated that the US – Caribbean Leaders Meeting to be held on June 8th, 2023, will be on the onset and representation of the United States support advanced to the Caribbean region. 

Meanwhile, the Vice President’s visit will also serve as the Biden-Harris commitment to enhancing the bilateral cooperation with the Caribbean leaders in pursuit of shared security and prosperity.

The meeting will also discuss various aspects related to mutual cooperation, bonds and common interests between the countries. In this context, the conference will also shed light on a number of other important issues and challenges faced on the regional level. 

Among the issues, it has been reported that VP Kamala Harris will stress the climate crisis during the meeting.

Additionally, the issue of the climate crisis will also outline ways to promote climate resilience measures along with the methods of adaptation in the CARICOM region. According to reports, the goal can be achieved by promoting renewable energy sources and security through clean energy.

The climate crisis of 2030 will be a significant topic to be discussed during the US – Caribbean Leaders Meeting, 2023, through the longstanding partnership between both countries, launched by the VP and Caribbean leaders during the meeting held in Los Angeles at the Summit of the Americas.

On the instance of the Caribbean-American Heritage Month, US Vice President Kamala Harris is travelling to the Commonwealth of Bahamas to celebrate and embrace the long-term relationship between the US and Caribbean leaders on the ground level.
