The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a stern warning to motorists, highlighting the dangers posed by neglected safety measures during this extreme weather.

Among the primary culprits behind summer car fires are tyre bursts, exacerbated by the intense heat, and negligence in handling flammable items left inside vehicles.

Items such as compressed packages, batteries, energy storage devices, hand sanitizer, perfumes, gas cylinders, and lighters can all ignite if exposed to prolonged sunlight, turning a vehicle into a potential inferno.

Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the importance of preventive measures.

“The safety of motorists and others on the road is paramount. Drivers must equip their vehicles with essentials such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits,” he emphasized.

These measures not only protect the driver and passengers but also enhance overall road safety. Vehicles themselves contain numerous flammable components, including liquid fuels, oils, and interior materials like plastics and rubber.

Without regular maintenance and inspections, these elements can become hazards waiting to ignite, especially in the extreme heat of summer.

“Routine maintenance checks are crucial,” advised Chief Engineer Ahmed Al Mansouri of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence. “Ensuring that vehicles are in optimal condition reduces the risk of mechanical failures that could lead to fires.”

To mitigate risks, experts recommend parking vehicles in shaded areas whenever possible and avoid leaving them unattended for extended periods during peak daylight hours.

Proper ventilation inside parked cars is also crucial to prevent the buildup of heat, which can reach lethal levels for both occupants and stored items.

The combination of high temperatures and neglected safety practices poses a serious threat not only to vehicle owners but also to the broader community.

Education campaigns and proactive measures by authorities aim to reduce the incidence of summer-related accidents and ensure safer driving conditions across the UAE.

While the UAE embraces its summer heat, motorists must remain vigilant. Simple precautions such as keeping flammable items out of direct sunlight, maintaining vehicle components regularly, and being prepared with safety equipment can significantly reduce the risk of car fires..

By prioritizing safety and adhering to preventive guidelines, drivers can navigate the summer months safely and enjoy a hassle-free driving experience.
