Dominica: Under the directiveness of the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the equipment and machinery arrived in the country for the construction of the International Airport carried by a special vessel on Friday. The construction equipment will be unloaded and transported to the destination in the coming days.

According to the reports, PM Roosevelt Skerrit has expressed pride and honour while welcoming the vessel in Dominica and conveyed that this is a significant step towards constructing the Dominican International Airport. “World-class facilities and convenience will be provided to the travellers and visitors coming from across the world at the airport,” he added.

During a press conference held in Dominica, it was confirmed by PM Roosevelt Skerrit that the vessel would be arriving at the country’s dockyard carrying heavy construction material regarding the airport building project. The unloading of the material is expected to begin in the coming few days, said the Prime Minister.

In addition, top government officials and authority members involved in the building, planning and mobility of the international Airport received the vessel at the dock. Furthermore, the Director of Operations at MMCE, Cal Murad, has emphasized that the designs and infrastructural planning have been handled by his department very closely while focusing on even small details of the project.

He also stated that the work had been handled by the top technicians, designers and engineers from around the world alongside Dominicans. 

He extended his remarks and confirmed that the project’s characteristics and details are being seriously considered, along with soil testing of the site where the Airport will be constructed.

Moreover, the soil testing process has given essential significance as several laboratories were established to conduct various tests, ranging from 26 in total, said MMCE officials. Land levelling through excavation has also been done, through which heavy machinery movements would be facilitated on the site.

Additionally, MMCE Director Murad further took it to convey that the construction of the International Airport in Dominica would also boost the employment opportunity for the locals as around 28 engineers from the nation, with experience, would be working on the project. “skilful labour and technicians are also given substantial responsibilities and work at the site,” he added.

The updates from the recently held press conference stated that Dominica’s workers, engineers, technicians, etc., are given priority following the upcoming giant construction project in the nation by the Government of Dominica and other leading authorities. 

Moreover, the economy of Dominica will also get a significant boost through such a large-scale manufacturing project which will begin in the coming days, said MMCE management.

On his part, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has also pointed out that the project’s first phase included the construction of around 30 (thirty) houses for the families in Joe Burton Development, who lost their homes at old locations.

The groundwork of the plan is already in motion through finalizing different pathways to follow related to the testing of the land formation along with soil testing. The arrived machinery and equipment are expected to be transported to the Airport site in the next few days, confirmed MMCE Director Murad.
