CDC Panel to meet and discuss vaccination and heart inflammation!

Recently, cases of heart inflammation emerged in the some of the people who received Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. To discuss the same, a panel of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is going to meet and discuss the issue on Friday.

The rare heart inflammation has majorly appeared in the male recipients of the said vaccinations, who are under the age of 30.

As per the reports by Dr. Tom Shimabukuro, the deputy director of the Immunization Safety Office at the CDC, “275 reports of myocarditis and pericarditis among vaccinated males aged 16-24 as of May 31 against a backdrop of over 12 million administered doses. While younger groups aged 12-24 accounted for nearly 9% of all administered doses, the group comprised over half (52.5%) of 528 reports relating to heart issues across all age groups.”

The reports state that the reported cases among those aged 16-24 exceeded the expected. The expected number of cases of myocarditis/pericarditis in teens aged 16-17 were 2-19, but the cases reported in that age group were 79.

During the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) virtual meeting that took place last week, Shimabukuro had said, “We clearly have an imbalance there,”

According to the reports, the cases of heart inflammation occurred more often after the recipients received their second doses of the vaccine. Most importantly, the symptom of the heart condition caused by the abovementioned vaccines is chest pain.

As told by Shimbukuro, an analysis of preliminary reports was in progress. The CDC’S deputy director of the Immunization Safety Office also told that the officials were conducting a follow-up in order to obtain medical records to get the knowledge of confirm cases of heart issues.

After the meeting of the CDC panel about the medical complications caused by Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, an update will be provided by the authorities. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to give an update on COVID-19 vaccine safety on Friday June 18, which will also include updates and conclusions about myocarditis following mRNA vaccinations.
