Dubai: DHA reminds chronic disease patients to get themselves checked regularly ahead of Ramadan

DHA - Dubai Health Authority reminded the general population with chronic disease to get themselves in touch with regular check-ups as Ramadan 2022 is around the corner. 

Abu Dhabi, UAE: DHA – Dubai Health Authority reminded the general population with chronic disease to get themselves in touch with regular check-ups as Ramadan 2022 is around the corner. 

The health authority stated, “Book your appointment and consult your doctor on how to adjust your medications (at least ten days before Ramadan).”

The tweet of DHA cites – 

  • Consult your doctor on the possibility of fasting during Ramadan and chalk out your diet during Ramadan. 
  • Adjust your meals gradually. 
  • Drink enough water and sleep well- this is a golden health tip to follow all through the year. 

What is a chronic disease? 

The conditions which last for one year and more and need ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both are defined as “Chronic diseases”. 

These diseases are, such as – heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.

Here is the list of the common chronic diseases –

  • High blood pressure (hypertension) impacts 58% of seniors. 
  • High cholesterol impacts 47% of seniors.
  • Arthritis impacts 31% of seniors. 
  • Coronary heart disease impacts 29% of seniors. 
  • Diabetes impacts 27% of seniors. 
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) impacts 18% of seniors. 
  • Heart failure impacts 14% of seniors.

The government has issued amended guidelines for Ramadan 2022, keeping in mind the ongoing situation of the contagious COVID-19 pandemic.  

As per the guidelines of the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA), it is mandated for an individual to present a green pass and wear a mask as they enter the premises of the iftar tents. The security guards or volunteers must be deployed at every Ramadan tent to ensure that an assigned number of individuals enters the premises of iftar tents under COVID containment measures.  

The duties will be performed in coordination with ERC, NCEMA by the committee.
