The Dubai government has authorised the formation of a new Hatta Traders Council. This Council will support local, new Emirati business people and entrepreneurs as part of the Hatta Master Development Plan, which strives to turn the city into a major tourist destination.

This Council will come under the Dubai Chamber (DC) and work to increase the benefits from new economic opportunities, said Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, on Saturday, 23 April.

The Hatta Master Development Plan, which is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, strives to change the city into a desirable location for investment, business and tourism. This also includes the building of an inland beach, lake and cable-driven mountain railway.

Sheikh Hamdan said, “UAE citizens can direct the city’s comprehensive expansion and will play a critical role in supporting the emirate’s economy in the following 50 years.”

“We are assured in the capability of Emirati entrepreneurs to innovate and create special business ideas and projects that will contribute to increasing the emirate’s competitiveness worldwide.”

Hatta, which is located near the border with Oman, has already evolved as an adventure gateway, with kayaking and mountain biking as popular activities.

The current 20-year development plan was revealed last year by Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, to change Hatta into a significant tourist location, with many new projects in the pipeline.

The plan will also witness the addition of a funicular (cable railway), which is the longest mountain walk in the Emirates, new hotel facilities and 120 km of bicycle track, among other facilities.

The Hatta Traders Council is the foremost of a string of initiatives that will be established to support the views of young Emirati people and assure the growth and success of their businesses, stated Sheikh Hamdan.

The Council is all set to play a vital role in supporting young businessman who owns small and medium business firms, by empowering and allowing them to execute projects and provide creative ideas to promote sustainable economic development” in Hatta and Dubai, a statement said.
