Dubai is the thirst best city around the world for digital nomads to live in, as per recent research by real estate consultancy Savills.

The capital of Portugal, Lisbon, topped the chart. Miami took the second position in the Savills Executive Nomad Index, which conducts the research for the top 15 cities for long-term remote workers based on the quality of life, internet speed, air connectivity, climate and prime rents, said Savills in a statement on Wednesday, 27 April.

The most popular region of Portugal, the Algarve, located in the south of the country, was ranked fourth in the index, while Barbados in the Caribbean ranked fifth.

Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Saint Lucia, Malta and Antigua & Barbuda are the top 10 cities in Asia that are featured in the index.

Digital Nomads:-

Digital nomads are location-independent people who use technology to execute their job, while living a nomadic lifestyle. Digital nomads operate remotely, telecommuting instead of being physically present at a company’s headquarters or office.

Head of residential community sales and leasing at Savills Dubai, Helen Tatham, said, “Remote working allowed business owners from abroad to make Dubai their primary hub.”

“UK nationals have always preferred Dubai for work or vacation, but the market also profited from recent demand from German, Swedish, French and Swiss customers.”

The COVID-19 pandemic revved the remote-working trend, with the acquisition of new technologies prompting more workers to get away from the cities or nations where their employers are based.

Some countries, including the UAE, passed legislation designed to lure foreign-employed workers.

The UAE revealed its plan to provide a one-year residency permit for remote workers last March to lure more talent to the country and further boost business opportunities. The visa allows foreign remote professionals to reside in the Emirates while continuing to work for employers in their home nations.

Moreover, Dubai has topped the Savills index for air connectivity, with the airlines of emirates reaching over 100 countries, said Savills.

Air Connectivity:-

Air connectivity is estimated using a variety of measures at various levels of granularity. These standards involve total passenger movements, the number of direct destinations, airfares and travel time – which can act as standalone proxies or may be merged to create a measure capturing different attributes of the air-transport market.
