As per the data released by the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) on Thursday, 23 June, Dubai got 6.17 million international visitors in the first five months of this year, a huge increase of 197% as compared to the same period in 2021. From January to May last year, Dubai welcomed 2 million international travellers.

Dubai hotels maintained an occupancy level of around 76% from January to May 2022 as compared to the same period in 2021, which had an occupancy level of 62%.

As per the data from a hotel management analytics firm STR, Dubai was at the top position in hotel occupancy, which was ahead of other international locations, including New York (61%), London (60%) as well as Paris (57%), during the January-April 2022 period.

The director-general, Department of Economy and Tourism, Helal Saeed Almarri, stated that we are constructing on the huge momentum induced by the hugely successful Expo 2020 to push growth around all the tourism pillars from cultural to culinary experiences while working on getting the ambitious goal of creating Dubai the most visited location and the city of the future that will become the best place in the world to reside and work.

Almarri further added, “As we look forward to the remainder of 2022 and further, we will harness the key elements that have ensured the industry’s continued growth year after year since we reopened to international visitors in 2020 – providing an unparalleled, diverse destination delivering that shows the unique value and memorable experiences for our guests.”
