Sheikh Humaid promised to cover university fees of visually impaired Emirati topper

Dina Fayez, aged 18, was born with a degenerative disease, retinitis pigmentosa, in which cells in the retina break down gradually, causing loss of vision.

Despite her problem, the Jordanian studies for over five hours per day. 

Because of her dedication towards study and her mother’s constant help, Dina was given a full university scholarship by Sheikh Humaid. 

Her family have also been given a home near Ajman city. 

Dina’s favourite subject in school was Maths, and she would often explain problems to her class fellows. 

When she was named among the top performers of the UAE, she said that her classmates celebrated. 

In spite of her for maths, her dream is to major in Arabic.

Her father, who works as an assistant engineer at a private company in Dubai who has been residing and working in the UAE for over 25 years, said that her daughter is a fighter. 

He stated that Dina plans to study further at the University of Sharjah. 

His Highness stated that he would cover the expenses at whichever university she wanted to join and asked me how Dina would travel to and from the university of her choosing before he gave her a new house closer to the city, added Dina’s father. 

He said that no words are enough to describe the happiness of the family as well as Sheikh Humaid’s generosity. 

Dina, born in the UAE in 2004, was almost a year old when her parents noticed that he had some problems with her eyes. They visited many doctors over several years but could not find a possible cure.
