Dominica: Minister Melissa Skerrit visits Orion Academy on 'Int Day of Girl Child'

Melissa Poponne Skerrit, Minister of Housing and Urban Development of Dominica, visited the Orion Academy. She was invited to the Academy by Principal Jillian Robinson on the eve of “International Day of Girl Child”.

During her visit, she shared her view with the students and staff of the academy and motivated the students to work hard to turn their dreams into reality.

The principal of the academy, Jillan Robinso, welcomed Minister Melissa Poponne Skerrit on her arrival at Orion Academy along with staff and students.

In order to give a warm welcome to the Housing Minister, students of the academy also gave a special performance.

At the beginning of the event, the academy’s principal apprised the Housing Minister, Melissa Skerrit, about the different ongoing activities of the academy. She also shared the success stories of the academy students with her, which the Minister later appreciated.

During her address, the Minister stated that the day was very significant, especially for the girls.

“On this day, girls can learn about the success stories of successful women,” stressed Minister Melissa Skerrit. She also mentioned that successful women are role models for young girls. Moreover, young girls can get inspiration from these women.

The Housing Minister shared her happiness over her visit to the academy. She also expressed her gratitude to the academy management for providing her with the opportunity to share her views with the young talent of the country. Moreover, she was happy to know the motivational words from the parents of the students present at this moment.

Additionally, Melissa Skerrit disclosed the initiative being taken by the Dominica government for women’s empowerment and for the education of girl’s children.

According to the Minister, the government is committed to providing better opportunities to girls so that they can explore their talent without any obstacles.

Additionally, she also got the opportunity to have breakfast with the students and staff of the academy.

While concluding her visit, Melissa Skerrit presented the school management with a treat bag to share with them her favourite things as a token of appreciation.
