Common Kestrel Falcon Rescued from Fujairah Residential Building and Returned to Natural Habitat

Fujairah, UAE – A common kestrel falcon, native to the Hajar Mountains, has been safely rescued after becoming trapped in a residential building in Fujairah. The swift response came after the incident was reported to the Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) via their emergency hotline.

Upon receiving the call, the FEA’s biodiversity team immediately mobilized and arrived at the site to assess the situation. The team successfully freed the falcon from the building, ensuring the bird did not suffer any injuries during the ordeal.

The FEA conducted a series of physical examinations to evaluate the kestrel’s health and well-being. Following the thorough check-up, the falcon was confirmed to be in good health. Officials also verified that the bird did not belong to anyone, as kestrels are a protected species in the UAE and are commonly found in the Hajar Mountains region.

As part of the rescue procedure, the FEA attached a special identification ring to the bird. The ring, engraved with a unique code specific to Fujairah, will allow authorities to monitor the kestrel’s movements and ensure its well-being in the future.

After completing the necessary evaluations and tagging, the kestrel was released back into the wild, returning to its natural habitat in the rugged Hajar Mountains. The bird’s successful rescue and release underline the importance of conservation efforts in the region, where wildlife plays a critical role in maintaining ecological balance.

The Fujairah Environment Authority emphasized the role of their dedicated technical teams in handling environmental emergencies. These teams operate around the clock, equipped to respond to incidents involving local wildlife, including endangered and protected species.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the FEA expressed their commitment to preserving the biodiversity of Fujairah, particularly in the Hajar Mountains.

“We are proud of the quick response and expertise shown by our biodiversity team in safely rescuing this common kestrel falcon. Protecting our native species is a top priority, and we urge residents to report any wildlife emergencies through our hotline,” the spokesperson said.

The Hajar Mountains, stretching across the northern regions of the UAE, are home to a variety of wildlife, including the common kestrel. These birds of prey are known for their distinctive hovering hunting technique and are a common sight in the mountainous and desert regions of the UAE.

The Fujairah Environment Authority continues to work closely with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife protection and conservation. By establishing rapid response teams and providing educational resources, the FEA aims to ensure that incidents like this one are handled efficiently and with minimal impact on the animals involved.

Residents of Fujairah and surrounding areas are encouraged to contact the FEA immediately if they encounter wildlife in distress, ensuring that trained professionals can intervene and provide the necessary assistance.

As the kestrel returns to its natural environment, the FEA’s swift actions stand as a testament to the authority’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding Fujairah’s rich biodiversity.
